How to "survive" in jail
It is a sad but oh so true fact that our lifestyle brings us in contact with people who are paid to remove our freedom upon their knowledge of swim's activites.
This is not geared toward them it is up to swiy to decide how they are going to act towards Law enforcement, it is the other goup of individuals that have a law onto themselves, inmates. Jailors and police will have the most fun beating the crap out of a smart ass who is in jail for traffic offenses, because murders and other bank robbers usually arent problems for the badges. The way to not have problems when sharing a tank with them, is to be aware of the rules inside that tank. This is not official or unproven it is both expierence and known knowledge from the time when I didnt have the wits to stay out of handcuffs. Sure things are not always the same in all areas of the world. Feel free to add or comment as needed. 1. Dont shit in the toilet that is desinated as the pisser. 2. Dont ask to borrow anything. 3. Help clean up after meals. 4. Don't be scared. 5. Dont be overly brave. 6. Respect peoples space and dont have a mouth. 7. Mind your own business. 8. Don't allow an inmate to steal from you. 9. Do not whine 10. Learn to play spades |

Re: How to "survive" in jail
Don't let people do you too much favours (even if it's just sharing a joint or something).
Suddenly they might start asking for payment and you don't have money. Then you have to start doing things for them. edit: applies more to prison than it does to jail Last edited by FrankenChrist; 27-12-2007 at 21:05. |

[QUOTE=fnord;351634]8. Don't allow an inmate to steal from you.
easier said then done! QUOTE] I never said anything about easy. I was going to court while in custody once and while in holding tank with some other prisoners that had court the same day, lost a couple packs of smokes from being in their element. I was getting out that day, they were not , it was not worth defending that time. If I had to bunk in the cell with those two clowns , the shit would have had to hit the fan. |

"Learn to play spades" lol. Aint that the truth, fnord?
Good list , 1. I would say give respect where its due and demand it in return, 2. Mind your own business, 3. Make the best of the situation by reading, writing , playing spades and chess, also go to yard out everyday and get some exercise, got to keep in shape.

Re: How to "survive" in jail
When swim was in jail had had a good time considering, Better to be outside but he wasn't that bad of. He played chess with a dark skinned guy who also brought heroine in. Swim is a good chess player and so was he we he told swim it was only worthy to play with him. Afer a few days swim made friends with a Dutch guy who told him if he had trouble to tell him and they (him and his friends) will sort them out.
But swim had only 28 days and he kept his jobe. Swim is Dutch and he did his Time in the Netherlands, He wasn't living there at the time and still isn't now. |

Re: How to "survive" in jail
We are only talking about Jail not prison, dropping soap is funny but in reality not much of that kind of stuff really takes place in jail.
Sure if your in Los Angeles Co Jail and in the wrong tank , you could find yourself defending your manhood. Usually if your a punk going in , you'll be a punk coming out. But hygine is important , take showers and keep your self clean. |

Re: How to "survive" in jail
One of thwe great things about Ireland's police systems is the lack of holding tanks. You are put into a single cell on your own. This can be both good and bad. Pending wha you were arrested for, the length of holding time varies. Swim was once held for 23 hours and thirty minutes. The police knew they had nothing to charge Swim with so they just held him for as long as was permitted. Swim was speeding and got a "whoop whoop" and was brought to the station to be charged with reckless driving, till they saw his license qualifications.

Re: How to "survive" in jail
One golden rule over here: If you ever ratted anyone out in any way, or if you were ever convicted of rape and stuff like that, then you must ask to be isolated from the others. Because when in jail we always check new inmates papers and documents, even if they say they don't have any. If something weird is found, certain people would do very nasty things to them. Jail, prison, it doesn't usually matter here. If your'e a rat (or worse), you will be treated as one.

Re: How to "survive" in jail
One thing NOT to do, I witnessed this old guy do. About 15 of us were waiting in a large cell to be taken to our block. He's apparently in there for bad check(s) and probably will do 72hrs or less and get out on bail.
Surrounded by men looking at the possibility of YEARS inside, he starts bitching about how AWFUL he has it, when we all know he's so short! (I was short, too, but I kept quiet.) In his defense, he was detoxing hard off booze at the time. So: yes, it sucks--it's jail. The last thing anyone else wants to do is take your misery on top of their own. |

Re: How to "survive" in jail
jail, prision I always thought they are the same thing.
In the Uk they can keep you in custody for 24 hours without charge and then they have to let you go. I was in a single cell on my own for less than 12 hours, never met another person their except for the police and i felt very safe. Dont know much about uk jails/prisions but I doubt there anyway as bas as a US one. |

Re: How to "survive" in jail
in the US, jail would be like a county jail, it would be pretty close to where you live or where your crime was committed. federal prison is where no one wants to be... and it usually houses the worst of the worst, like murderers, rapists, molesters, arsonists, mafiosos, ETC. i would imagine the UK is arranged in the same fashion.

Re: How to "survive" in jail
In the U.S. the longest sentence a person could be sentenced to and stay in the county jail to do their time is one year, although some have had to stay longer than a year because they were fighting their case(s) in court, and it dragged out due to other factors.
State prison has just as many low lives as Federal prison, the reason why Federal pen would be bad is that the prisoner has to do a higher percent of his time that he is sentenced. From what I have gathered thou , the federal joint is nicer and has more things to do while incustody, some call it " club fed " Overcrowding in state facilities make time harder. I must point out that this is something that hasnt been a part of my past, I have only been to jail countless times. I did learn the ropes from people who had been in the pen and were going back. |

He also had playstation LOL!Many of the inmates and the guards were still as nasty as in maximum security prison though, but all in all it was not a real punishment compared to many many other countries. It was mostly quite nice actually, except for the being locked up thing... |

Swim didn't have a ps2 they wern't allowed because it wasn't a long term prison. Swim only got a 28 day sentence for 100 xtc pills and 1 yaba. Thats excluding 6 days in a police station in Amsterdam. |

Re: How to "survive" in jail
Yea prison here in washington state is easy time too. I was in a medium security housing unit that had two man cells. You also get a key to your "house" here. The intake prison is oldschool thought and is just a long tier with bars , just like in the movies, 2 stories high. In this place the first few days you probably spend on a mattress on the floor due to over crowding. Cigarettes are like 5 bucks a pop and people are paying that in envelopes or other commissary items all day long. Cause everyone in intake just came from a county jail where no smoking is allowed they are dyin to smoke. Cigarettes in this part of the prison were still hard to come by becase this joint consisted of the intake part and the population part, basically inmates just rolling thru from jail and off to another prison, or inmates who were doing there time there at shelton. The guys in population could buy cigarrettes on store, but in recieving you still were not allowed to smoke. So nowdays in the state of washington, in prison you cant even smoke cigarettes or buy them. When i was there you could have clothes sent in, you could order a pair of nice shoes, nice jacket, it all had to be brand new and come from an approved vendor but it was tight to be rocking some nice clothes and not be in some state issue crap ( khakis and white shirt ). Now i guess its all state issue, no personal clothing. lame.
