Acetyl-l-Carnitine for tolerance?

Swim is exploring ways to combat that tricksy quicksy tolerance that springs up so fast. He's taking magnesium supplements, 1000 mg at the meal a little while before he takes the Adderall XR. Hopefully that's working..but do you suppose that the protective properties are detrimental to some of the positive stimulation from adderall? He's been trying to figure that out. He also wonders about when exactly is the best time to take the pill.
Then there's acetyl-l-carnitine, a supplement which swim read about on some board and picked up from a store. It's been shown to be helpful for mental deterioration in aging folks. One of its effects that swim's been reading about is the restoration of dead NMDA receptors, cells...and isn't that at the root of amphetamine tolerance? So swim is wondering whether that should be administered during the amphetamine or after, as a restorative measure.
Any ideas?
