Hello. Welcome to the Opium and Poppy section of the forum.
Especially SWIWe welcome all new comers, Opium seems to be the "up and coming" trend in absolutely NO ONE WE KNOW.

We have a lot of new crew, and a lot of old friendlies. So one thought he would put together this little thread about our side of the forum for the use of all.

Actual discussions and new threads about things other than Opium and poppy are discouraged here, especially if there are other thread sections which are more relevant to the thing which SWIY wants discussed. An example would be Opiate pills.

SWIM actually believes that in the Opiate section there should be a thread section entirely devoted to this (Opiate / Opioid pills) or something of the kind, But for the time being those kinds of threads actually more appropriately belong in -

Opium, Opiates and Opioids main discussion.
(you have to scroll down past the main sub-categories to see the main opiates discussion threads).
Morphine.
Codeine.
Heroin.
or for Chemistry based questions -
Opiate and Opioid Chemistry.

Topics which are readily accepted here include things like "can SWIM make Morphine from Opium" and stuff like that. People will find that everyone here is friendly and will help as best they can even when a question may be a little off topic for this section of the forum. So as one can see one is not stating to NOT ask questions about morphine etc, but merely to make the questions relevant to Opium and Poppy.

Glossary of terms used in the Opium and Poppy thread.

Papaver Somniferum - The botanical name for the Opium Poppy. No other Poppy species actually contain either the right (medicinal) alkaloids or not enough of the specifically used alkaloids to bother with.

Opium - Usually refers to the latex which is bled then dried from the Poppy pods but can also be in reference to CFO which will be explained shortly.

Opiate Alkaloids - This refers to the narcotic alkaloidal structures specifically found naturally in the Opium Poppy. This is the good stuff in its rawest form. I.E: Morphine, Codeine etc.

CWE - This means "cold water extraction". This is one of the processes used to extract the said alkaloids from the opium poppy. In other parts of the forum this also refers to using cold water to extract opiates from opiate pills such as codeine / morphine etc. Since opiates are generally water soluble this is a very common procedure with anything containing opiates. It should be noted that Morphine becomes insoluble when turned into a base (Calcium Morphinate usually), it needs to be converted from that base with an acid and usually an ether or alcohol to make it water soluble again in a different form (usually Morphine Sulphate or DiacetylMorphine).

CFO - This refers to "cooked flake opium" if one cannot see anything about it here or if one cannot find it, here is a quick link to a WORKING METHOD and the CONTINUED DISCUSSION on the topic. There is also another working method of the ice-o-lation combination technique coming up in the working methods thread.

Ice-O-Lation - This refers to a technique which uses ice to push smaller molecules away from larger molecules and is considered to be a type of filtration. Information about this can be found in the cooked opium continued discussion section. (Which is actually headered as "the improved guide to flake or cooked opium")

CPS - Concentrated Poppy Straw. This usually means the dried and powdered poppy pods but can also mean a water based solution made from dried poppy pods and cal also just mean the dried poppy pods with 10cm of stem. Fresh pods can also be used to do this but it will still contain chlorophyll.

Poppy pods - This is the section of the plant which contains the goodies which people are usually after. A cut pod is usually considered to be the pod itself and 10cm of stem. The rest of the plant contains so little alkaloids that it is usually discarded. The pods are formed inside the flower and bleeding usually commences around a week or so after the flower petals have fallen off and the pod has been exposed, but this can vary. Some like to start the bleeding process as soon as the pod is exposed and others like to wait for the "Morphine Ring" to form.

The "Morphine Ring" - Late in pod development and just before the plant is about to die, a lot of pods tend to turn a little purple around the center of the pod ball. People sometimes believe this to be the optimal time to harvest the pods because they believe this to be the point at which the pod has reached full opiate content. There is much debate over this in other forums and medicinal botanical documents pointing in a number of directions but it is recommended by all people that the pods are harvested BEFORE a plant dies.

Incising - Making cuts or pin pricks into the pod walls to make the pod bleed the raw latex.

Vaporization - The type of smoking which is performed on Opium. Opium is vaporized (in a way) rather than smoked. Smoke does and will form during this procedure but its the vapors that actually provide the experience.

There is no such thing as a stupid question (except for asking if opium can be injected). If one is interested or wants information which he/she cannot find then go ahead and ask the question. One will find that all people here are accommodating and do try to help as much as possible with all questions. Some people have to remember that we were ALL newbies at some point, Whereas others need to remember that although some people may have only little reputation points here, or are new to posting threads here that they may actually hold good and useful information which is factual and correct. Just because it may be their first time at this forum does not mean that they are inexperienced.
