Liquid cactus ain't *that* bad!
After hearing that boiling can reduce the potency of some of the alkaloids (and not being to keen on a 7 hour boiling session anyway), SWIM decided to simply peel and freeze-thaw about 600g (possibly more) of san pedro (fresh), collecting the thaw juice and combining this with the despined (and now blended) cactus crush. Random amounts of lemon juice and a few spoonfulls of sugar were added. Roughly 1 liter of this juice-goo was consumed in the course of about 25 minutes.
At this point SWIM expected to gag etc due to many reports of the cactus' vile taste. To his surprise it was pretty drinkable, disgusting? Yes, very, but drinkable. SWIM now believes this is by far the easiest and most effective method to consume the sacred flesh and highly recommends it. 2 Hours after consumption SWIM reported mild nausea which went pretty quickly, against his expectations, however, he did not throw up (first time cactus eater). A very intensive trip which lasted nearly 14 hours ensued. Any comments from other direct-eaters? Maybe in comparison to boiling out, strength + quality wise? |

Dear SWIM, very interesting report, indeed. And this comes to you from someone who has done the "San Pedro thing" several times using the "CrockPot" method, i.e. heating. Your approach, which reminds me of the Coors commercial touting their frost-brewed product sounds intriguing. Certainly using the heat method did not result in a 14 hour trip for me, ever. Did you get any visuals? A liter of goo sounds pretty disgusting alright (though not as bad as some of the stuff that Bear Grylls eats
) Cheers, electrum!

SWIM says a lot of it involved more visuals than non visuals ;-)
Seriously though, very intense (he said). |

Re: Liquid cactus ain't *that* bad!
swim has found little to no difference in the potency of a boiled brew v. a freshly skinned chop and consumption. under a prolonged low heat, the volume intended for consumption can be vastly reduced without reaching a degradation point for mescaline and its analogues. for peyote consumption, a raw cacti eating session is usually recommended for two reasons: respect for the 'sacred flesh' and ingestion of miscellaneous non-mescaline alkaloids. the experience of cacti ingestion varies greatly in its depth and breadth as compared to a pure mescaline dose, though both have their values. cacti consumption usually results in a more viscerally stimulating, visual and physical trip, while pure mescaline commonly results in a more cognitive impact, though this is not to say that either experience lacks elements of the other.

Sounds icky. You can make salts from all the alkaloids in the cactus, not just the mescaline. Last edited by PsychicTraveler; 08-01-2008 at 19:24. |

So NotI states, only because he could do it, which has more to do with a cast-iron stomach than being a "true man", I suspect. Perhaps that what you mean by "more viscerally stimulating.."? ![]() Synthetic mescaline (InotMHO) is a great party drug. Peyote is a moving, outside in nature, opportunity to communicate with a Greater Whole, and gain appreciation for the opportunity to be alive on the Planet... =========== PS: The extremely bitter taste of peyote is preferred over the infinitely bad slimy taste of San Pedro |
