Treating addiction?

I can't tell if this is placebo..but I read somewhere that ket had potential for treating addiction.

Swim tried ket for the first time a few days ago and woke up w/o the urge to get high. The first time swim had that in years.

Three days later the urge returned, but swims fucking surprised that it seemed to prevent it for 2 days.

Seems like it can do some good in monitored long term doses w/ therapy?

Re: Treating addiction?

My friend says that when he tries a new drug and enjoyed it, always makes him very contempt and fascinated for the next few days. He's not a heavy drug user but when he does, he wants to do them again and again. He felt the same as Swiy when he first tried Ket; the day after, he wanted to take MDMA and go clubbing and snort more Ket (he didn't do it though - he saves drugs for special occasions).

My friend, after reading over Swiy post several times, thinks Swiy has contradicted Swiyself. Treating addiction yet getting urges to get high?

Re: Treating addiction?

^^^ This is what I also thought upon reading. But reading twice reveals this:

and woke up w/o the urge to get high.
i.e. ketamine reduced general drug craving for 2 days.

Re: Treating addiction?

he is saying that maybe ketamine could help you abstain from other addictions (heroin, meth, coke, alcohol, whatever). at least i think.

doing ketamine got swim to stay off coke for months. Not that swim planned to quit coke, but it just made the craving for it stop.

Re: Treating addiction?

SWIM is not really sure about this but scince he binged ket he hasnt wanted a ciggy scince. Before though he would start to crawl up the walls within 12h (figuratly speaking). SWIM thinks its definatly a short term fix to addictions

Re: Treating addiction?

Ket is highly addictive on its own. SWIM thinks ketamine has an overpowering effect on most drugs.

Re: Treating addiction?

This reminds me of when John Lilly, in his eighties and still taking ketamine, was asked by Karl Jansen if he was glad he took ketamine. He answered that it got him off cocaine!

Re: Treating addiction?

My Bill says that Ketamine may well put off your urge to get high. It can act as an anti depressant which may have made you realise you don't need the green. Overall my Bill thinks that ketamine is an overall healthier narcotic as long as it dosen't become an obsession. He hasn't incured any long term affects from Ketamine and hasn't know any to be documented and has also seen the affect weed addiction can have on people, i.e his close friend.
