Could suboxone have ruined swim's salvia Divinorum experience
Today swim tried salvia for the first time.He got the 15x.Swim takes suboxone and his friend takes methadone.Swim and his friend smoked the salvia in a bowl. Then swim smokes some in a joint. All they both got was a short period of a head rush, feeling dizzy and disoriented, and feeling hot.Swim got some trails. This only lasted a matter of seconds.Could this have anything to do with the longlasting opiates swim and his friend take?Could it be salvia is simply exaggerated in it's power?Did swim and his friend do something wrong? They were both very disappointed with this substance.Swim doesn't think he or his friend will be trying salvia again.

Well salvinorin is thought to be hallucinogenic by acting as an agonist at kappa-opioid receptors.
There are three main opioid receptors - Mu, delta, kappa. Mu tends to be the one most desired and produces analgesia in all three areas (supraspinal, spinal and peripheral) & euphoria. Subutex (Buprenorphine) is a partial agonist at mu receptors and an antagonist at kappa-receptors. So given acutely could theoretically reduce activity of salvia. Methadone is an agonist at mu receptors. It is possible that a stronger reduction in effect occurs because of down regulation of the kappa-opioid receptors. (therefore reducing the effects from salvinorins) This could be from long term opioid use (as with above 2 x drugs) and complex tolerance effects or from other drugs entirely. Of course it could simply be down to smoking technique, temperature & dose/extract used but in theory a reduction in effect makes sense. Some people though have found a reverse tolerance required with salvia divinorum where it gets stronger after the first few times. Last edited by Zaprenz; 16-12-2007 at 03:51. |

Re: Could suboxone have ruined swim's salvia experience
as said above, some find reverse tolerance. swim knows a lot of people who didn't feel much their first time, but doing it again (same dosage/method) produced much stronger effects. but swim doubts the suboxone interferes with it at all. even if it did it would most likely be very minor. swiy should try it again. get a bong, load up some salvia leaf, or tobacco. put on a whole lot of 15x extract and take the biggest hit possible. and if possible, take another right after. this should really do the trick. btw, swim is on suboxone was at 32mg a day but now at around 16mg.

Re: Could suboxone have ruined swim's salvia experience
The feeling swim got from salvia was very, very short though somewhat intense.Nothing like the reports he reads though nor was it really what swim would call enjoyable.Swim would like to experience what some people say about salvia but this seems to be too much money and too much time invested.Swim is going to finish off his bag of 15 x but he doesn't see himself rushing out and buying more salvia.

Quote:
It's certainly possible buprenorphine could have reduced the effect from a given dose. It's also possible both opioids have altered regulation of kappa opioid receptors slightly to reduce the overall effect. ..but it could also be the combination of taking an opioid (which stimulates mu-receptors) whilst also taking salvinorin is simply an unpleasant drug combination. As SWIY says - don't rush out and buy more, simple. Although SWIY might want to keep it as a relic from the days when it was legal - that is if it gets banned as that may result in it becoming very rare. Last edited by Zaprenz; 16-12-2007 at 11:29. |

Re: Could suboxone have ruined swim's salvia experience
Swim considered this very thing"but it could also be the combination of taking an opioid (which stimulates mu-receptors) whilst also taking salvinorin is simply an unpleasant drug combination."If that is the case unfortunately swim will probably never experience the real wonders of salvia because swim needs his opiates. If only swim had heard of salvia and tried it before becoming dependent.

Re: Could suboxone have ruined swim's salvia experience
keep the rest for the future maybe?
like SWIM said if nothing else at least it might be a relic from the days when it was legal. Alternatively SWIY might come off buprenorphine in the future and choose to experiment then? Last edited by Zaprenz; 17-12-2007 at 06:57. |

Re: Could suboxone have ruined swim's salvia experience
Swim and his friend were talking about atleast saving the package it came in so when people talk about the "good ole days when salvia was legal."swim will be able to say"I lived in those days!".Swim doesn't think he will ever get off suboxone or opiates in general.Swim just never felt right without them even before he started them.Swim is going to atleast use the rest of the salvia he got though, who knows? He may have a breakthrough.
