Coroner said toxicology results, which were released Monday, show that musician died of accidental drug overdose.
By Chris Harris http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/157...iet_riot.jhtml wo weeks after news of his death first made headlines, the autopsy results on late Quiet Riot frontman Kevin DuBrow — who was found in his Las Vegas home November 25, dead at age 52 — were released Monday (December 10), according to The Associated Press. DuBrow reportedly died of an accidental cocaine overdose. The wire service claims Clark County coroner spokeswoman Samantha Charles confirmed the cause of death following the receipt of toxicology results, also on Monday. DuBrow's death was ruled accidental, and according to a spokesperson for the Las Vegas police department, there were no signs of forced entry at the home, and police have not suspected foul play. According to those close to the singer, DuBrow celebrated his birthday the month before in New Orleans and seemed to be in good health. Shortly after DuBrow's death, Quiet Riot bassist Kelly Garni asked fans to be patient and not rush to assumptions. "I ask this to all of you not only for myself but for other friends and family," Garni wrote in a message posted on a Web site honoring the memory of Quiet Riot founding member Randy Rhoads. "I ask that no one here offer any speculation or opinions, theories or other things that could be construed as negative or, and I'm sorry for this, even sympathetic, right at this immediate time. I am already, within hours of this, having to deal with untrue rumors and speculation and that only adds fuel to that. There is a tendency for the subject of Kevin to incite flames on every board, and now is not the time for that. I will explain to everyone here the facts and the truth in the next 24 to 48 hours as I realize this will affect us all. So please, until then, be patient. All details and other pertinent info will be passed on to you here when it becomes available to me." Many other fellow rockers and fans — including Glenn Hughes, Nikki Sixx and others — shared fond memories of DuBrow following his death. Credited with helping to launch the 1980s glam-metal scene, Quiet Riot are perhaps best known for their cover of Slade's "Cum on Feel the Noize," which appeared on 1983's Metal Health and eventually peaked at #5 on the Billboard Hot 100. The album is widely considered the first by a metal band to reach the chart's #1 position. Rhoads formed Quiet Riot in 1975, but the group split four years later when he left to join Ozzy Osbourne's band (Rhoads died in a plane crash in 1982). DuBrow launched his own band, called DuBrow, and later reverted to the Quiet Riot name. While Metal Health put Quiet Riot on the map, the band's subsequent releases weren't as well-received. Not helping the situation were some of DuBrow's comments: During the '80s, the singer was notorious for deriding contemporary metal bands in interviews and even lashed out at the press and the band's label. Toward the conclusion of the band's 1987 tour, DuBrow was fired from Quiet Riot; he was left behind in a hotel, while the rest of the band took an earlier flight. However, Quiet Riot's career with new singer Paul Shortino met with even less success. The members gradually reunited under the Quiet Riot moniker in the early '90s and continued to tour and record consistently until DuBrow's passing. In 2004, DuBrow released a collection of covers as his first solo LP, In for the Kill. ___________________________________________ DuBrow had quite a reputation for being obnoxious, one of the reasons for the band Quiet Riot's short-lived success. Their only big hit was a clover of a the British band Slade's classic, "Cum on Feel the Noise" ( a good cover). Their album Metal Health is a heavy metal classic. |

Re: Quiet Riot Singer Kevin DuBrow Died Of Cocaine Overdose: Report
Cocaine is unpredictable and capricious. There is no set lethal dose, it changes with the wind. Elephant trunk lines can sometimes be consumed, yet fatalities have been reported with as little as a speck being used to numb the gums. No other drug has such a hair trigger nitroglycerine personality.
Recall the college basketball hero Len Bias dying on the eve of his being drafted to the Boston Celtics. Andy Gibb of the super pop group The BeeGees died of "furry arteries" clogged with the scarring caused by heavy coke abuse. Heck, the director of the movie 'BLOW', starring Johnny Depp, died while playing a benefit basketball game! Coke is a major stressor to the human system, causing incredible blood pressure surges, zany irregular heartbeat, and dangerously high body temperature. System failure generally involves stroke or heart attack. Interestingly, after a prolonged period of abstinence from coke, the body becomes super sensitized. It is then most dangerous to revisit cocaine intoxication, even in the slightest degree. Evidence Mr Rick James of 'SuperFreak' fame, who, after cleaning up in prison for a few years, chose to have one more go with 'Sister Snow' for old times sake. No other drug has as unpredictable a lethal dose as cocaine, none, hands down. Monsieur DuBrow's demise is a bell chime to warn all baby boomer rockers to chill. Decide to move forward into sober adulthood and take the courageous steps that lead to new avenues of expression. Tell you what, Kevin's death has probably saved my own life from repeating his mistake. Thank You Kev! " If you have no self worth whatsoever only a brush with death will satisfy your vanity" We act according to our perceived self worth. Cocaine use fills a hole in the soul with a delusion that is sheer emptiness. It mirrors our anxieties, and like a jealous rival, vies for our affection, demanding total attention. Coke's siren song, her constant lament is always 'What have you done for me, lately?" If anyone, John Entwistle is certainly the poster boy for cocaine's jealous penchant of stealing the limelight, snuffing out the great fiddler's life on the eve of the Who's comeback reunion tour. Curious that bandmate Daltry is alleged to have remarked that at least 'The Ox' went out in style rather than withering away, an old man. Whatever... Perversely, neither health nor wealth offer any protection from this bandit. Google 'cocaine death' and you'll find athletes, fitness trainers, champions young and in their prime, taken without regard. Only earlier this month, sweet Irish lass, super model Katie French collapsed at a friend's home after imbibing. Seizure preceeded heart failure and led to irreversible brain damage. Despite her being among "friends", it supposedly took over 8 hours to bring her to hospital. Coke buddies are notoriously lacking in administering timely assistance in these kind of situations. Many cases abound where coco compadres leave their blowmate for the vultures while cleaning off the plate before absconding with the remaining stash. Short of having a personal EMT on standby with a defib machine at the ready, most likely, you are on your own. Finally, cocaine combined with alcohol metabolizes into cocaethylene, itself, an even greater threat than cocaine alone. In fact, the cocaine & alcohol combo challenges the infamous 'speedball' (cocaine & heroin) in unpredictable lethality. JazzMaster Miles Davis purportedly devoured upwards of a half ounce daily while swimming in booze, suffering numerous strokes & finally spitting up blood at his last gig, curtain call at 65. Now, that's one tough hombre! I belabor this bitch because for some reason, Dubrow's deed is personal with me. Like a soldier losing his buddy in a war, I'm left to wonder why it wasn't me, instead. Such is not mine to know, rather it is my duty to carry on and 'feel the noize'. Damn you Kev and bless you at the same time, too! Take Care All~!~ |

Re: Quiet Riot Singer Kevin DuBrow Died Of Cocaine Overdose: Report
It sounds earily similar to what happened to John Entwistle from the Who.
