Ayahuasca and Antibiotics

Are there any harmful side effects if one were to take ayahuasca while on an antibiotic?

The danger comes from drugs that are dosed based on a half-life that is dependent on MAO. Any drug broken down by MAO would reach toxic levels very quickly once MAO was inhibited by the MAOI in Ahyahuasca.

There are many different kinds of antibiotics out there, so you'll have to check the drug fact sheet of each one you take. This is something you should do with any drug if you also are taking an MAOI that was prescribed by your doctor or not.


Check the drug fact sheet for "contraindications". This will usually tell you if you can take the drug with an MAOI or not.
