Opinions - Alprazolam or Diazepam for sleep?

Swim has the choice of either Alprazolam 1mg (xanax) or diazepam 10mg (Valium)

he will use them mainly to get to sleep when under stress, if he ever gets anxiety or when he is comming down and needs to sleep.

in your monkeys experience which should he go for.

Interesting that your marmoset has the Alprazolam option (being in the UK, it is rarely encountered here).

Diazepam would be the flamingos choice (for sleep/comedowns, if required), but be aware, benzo use tends to creep. For anxiety: Try non-pharmacological approaches.

Alprazolam has a swift onset of action and a short half-life. Both are very reinforcing (ie: make the marmoset want more). Taking more benzodiazepines is a bad place to be. Remember, physical dependence can occur with as little as 14 days daily use.

My mate says thanks.

He hopes he will not become dependant, the fact the he will only take 1-2 every 3 weeks should play in his favour.

he currently uses diazepam for the above issues with no problem. I guess he just fancied a change.

like i said if your friend is using this for sleep try one and then try the other and see which one works best for your friends condition.

alprazolam is my grandmas choice for fun/sedation/whatever.

SWIG has found this is a much referred to comparison in a number of threads over the year.

The only answer is that if SWIY has the opportunity to try both, SWIY will know pretty quickly the benzo of SWIY's choice (none, obviously being the best choice!).

SWIG prefers Alprazolam (is in the UK too, but obtains easily enough). SWIG needs the swift onset SWIJatelka referred to. It is this that reassures SWIG the drug is working. Diazepam seemed too smooth an effect for SWIG, like it's in the background doing it's job. The reverse could happen to SWIY though. 1mg Alprazolam and 10mg Diazepam are comparative doses, though SWIG would find himself taking 20mg Diazepam to achieve a semi-satisfactory therapeutic effect.

my mate thanks you again, he has made his decision and in going to go with the Alprazolam,

He made this decesion because he wants to feel it "hit" he also found diazepam a little "smooth". That coupled with trying a new substance did it for him,

he says if all works out well he will report back

Swim has taken both and loves the xanax effect.
However valium is more subtle,lasts longer and is easier to withdraw from.
So I get both and when swim gets too involved with the xanax then
takes 3 days off and uses valium only. No withdrawals
but boring. Better boring with no anxiety than the craving effect for xanax
every 5 hours. Valium lasts for 8 to 10 hrs.

for sleep swim would definately choose alprazolam. it knocks swim out. for a fun and more mellow, relaxed time, choose diazepam.

To be brief..Xanax is 100% head buzz.
Vals' more 50/50 part body relax part mind relax.
Vals last longer 8 to 10 hours though less euphoric.
Xanax more euphorhic last only 5 hrs making you wanting for more!
hence the addiction issue the queen has mentioned.

as far as the sleeping goes, will diazepam be better for sleep/sedation than an equivelant dose of clonazepam? swim is perscribed clonazepam but has a docter appointment tomorrow and wonders which to get. they are both similar in duration.
