Alcohol's perception as "not a drug"

I get so annoyed when I hear someone say that "alcohol isn't really a drug". It just gets to me because these people are so ignorant and they are the same people who look down upon the use of other drugs when they may even be more safe than alcohol. Drives me nuts.

The worst thing about these people is you can't change their opinion. If they want to feel good about what they do they will not want to be enlightened and that is where my problem lies. These people use the excuse that it is legal to give themselves an excuse to not be labelled as a junky and to assure themselves that their use of alcohol is OK as compared to other drugs and they blatantly refuse to acknowledge facts in order to vindicate their use in their own mind.

Discuss.
