no I know it's not similiar to it at all. I hear it's similar to Very strong coffee. And you feel very energized throughout the day. I mainly want ot hear other people's view points on what they think or experienced with the coca extract or leaves.

well if you really want people's opinion read the posts that were made on the subject, as this question pops up *every week*. Use the search engine or browse the 18 pages or so of this section of the forum. It's nothing like coffee, it's nothing like cocaine. just read up ! especially if your question is going to be on extracting coca leaves, is it possible, what yield etc... -------- as for extracts, you can make very strong tea or macerate in alcohol, nothing much on the subject yet, though commercial drinkeable extracts exist in peru and bolivia, along with coca wines, toothpastes, etc b |

I've seen extracted & powdered coca leaves for sale on certain dark corners of the web, does anyone know of the insufflation potential with this? Is it only good for tea?

if you're talking about c. sour like preparations, no go. it's very good for tea and gives quite a nice kick to alcoholic brewages, but the taste is special. a good drink though, stimulation found to be stronger than tea but nothing to get wired about. Some have also found the mixture weak, so... |

so it's physically impossible to insufflate?

considering that the dose that you would want to dissolve in a glass is around one or two tablespoonfuls for a very mild effect, that it doesn't disolve that well ( you have to stir for a few minutes) and that it's also got sugar and flavour agentsin it among other things, one would guess that it's not possible. same goes for coca leaf powder, which is basically what this is except flavoured and made soluble... just dissolve 100 grams of sour ina bottle ofwhisky, add some coca cola and lemon juiceand drink that, good drink and the sour counterbalances the depressant qualities of alcoholEdited by: benga |

Another option, which is delicious : hot coca wine.
look for the recipe by typing "tonic" in the search engine. this not only works but tastes really good, which is not always the case with coca leaf based preparations b |

Coca tea is good for your stomach, some say good for getting a very slight buzz and many say good for altitude sickness amongst other health orientated things. Swim never gets noticeable stimulation with coca tea, though it is a good healthy drink, and swim has spent a fair slice of swims time in the Andes cosuming coca leaf in a variety of forms and ways. This talk about a stimulating buzz like good coffee, well swim and the Andean people swim has lived with must be missing something. Are you adding something to the coca tea because swims understanding is without alkaline catalyst sold with the Coca leaf in the Andes there is little (if you are very sensitive) or no buzz.
Swim can chew a gob full (ie 60 coca leaves) without catalyst and there is no gum numbing, no stimulation just nourishment, but add a bit of catalyst (ie lejia) then we have action, the gums numb and the brain feels dam good The Andean people dont chew coca with a alkaline catalyst for no reason. Swim thinks anything but extremely mild stimulation is all that is possible with coca tea, nothing near coffee (or dam you must be drinking some poor coffee), but empty that tea bag or better 3 or 4 in your gob with some sodium bicarbonnate and make a quid and keep it between your gums and cheek...well then we have some action after a few minutes.... then it is far better than any coffee |

double post edited, sorry, see below. SWIM adds that he drinks liters of coca tea daily ( with between 5 and 8 teabags per pot) and never has felt a coffee like "buzz" for the infusions, nor any problems sleeping from the tea. on "chewing" coca, swim would like to note that teabags are actually much more effective than leaves, as leaves are very bulky, and a traditional quintu is actually very small. In shredded form you can easily fit 10gm in your mouth which is not respecting the traditional spirit of coca but also quite effective. Adding a basifying agent ( quinoa ashes, sodium bicarb, limestone paste...) effectively extracts the alkaloids ( read a cocktail of up to 14 active alkaloids, which is why coca stimulation has little to do with cocaine, even though this particular alkaloid is one of the leave's most active- the others balance out the effects) which are absorbed by the mouth's mucous. this stimulation is indeed very pleasant, you feel less fatigue, less physical pain if you were feeling any, your mood is lightened and feel more eager to work, which is why coca is such a helpful plant for physical labour or walking in the Andes. Coca stimulation doesn't make you feel jittery or in need for physical action as cocaine does, but allows you to work longer and better. Concentration is also improved, though it's easy to feel the urge to complete quite a few tasks at once. coca does have a slight comedown, which lasts about 30 minutes, when the stimulation is wearing off and you fell more tired and less peppy, but this quickly goes away as the effect on dopamine levels is nothing comparable to that of pure cocaine hcl tea is good, full of nutriments and good for your stomach, but it doesn't compare to "chewed" coca or coffee. Go for yerba mate for a caffeine kick without the jitters or sleeping problems, and save coca for chewing when needed. |

the "chewing" coca, in leaf form or coca teabags thread
Swim decided to put 4 teabags of Windsor brand in his mouth with Sodium Bicarb inside them. Mouth was a bit numb but not much noticeable effect otherwise. Hmm?

Re: Little effect? Teabags
well, swim found the windsor brand to be of very low quality as well.
in bolivian brands, mac matte seems like a better option. peruvian coca is in usuallyl of better quality from swim's experience. it's not that the leaves have been processed, just that they're not high quality, dull taste and not very strong. |

Re: Little effect? Teabags
SWIM has been interested in coca tea bags lately as an alternative to caffeine but has found that a lot of the brands he tried are crap.
On a side note too if SWIY is looking for a cocaine high from coca tea bags, SWIY should start looking elsewhere... Coca tea stimulation is believed to be from the secondary alkaloids and not just cocaine. A quick google search shows that coca leaves have only betwen .1 and .8 percent cocaine |

And lastly, don't expect anything close to a coke high from just leaves.

What would be differently done to make leaves high quality as opposed to low quality?

Hannibal knows that some vendors are selling old product too, it appears much dryer and a little more brown and dusty than the newer stuff. I wonder how much degredation occurs.

plant used, location and growing conditions, altitude, watering of plants ( most coca plants get weaker if they get a lot of water) period of harvest, selection of plant leaves ( bigger leaves are usually weaker, leaf grade selection is important, pretty much like tea's super fine tippy flowery golden orange pekoe, some manufacturers might be tempted to mix crops, or mix another plant in the leaf powder etc), age of the leaves used and leaf stocking / preparation conditions all have an influence on the product's potency. as for asking for pm sources, this is against the rules. b |

Perhaps swim expected too much.

Re: Little effect? Teabags
perhaps. also make sure that the technique is right. swim would say that if 3 to 4 teabags in the mouth with a pinch of baking soda in each, the teabags tucked between gum and cheek and kept there for *at least* 25 minutes (40 minutes should be fine), while not swallowing the abundant saliva ( yes, coca isn't that great of a social substance) and gently pressing / sucking on the bags doesn't produce that much of an effect then the tea is indeed pretty crappy.
most people don't keep the bags long enough or spit/ swallow the saliva, while it's through the saliva that the akaloids enter the blood stream. but it has to be in contact with the mouth lining's mucosa long enough. it's a gradual process, both in terms of extraction and administration. b |

right on that..
How much baking soda should be used, exactly? How salty should it taste? |

Re: Little effect? Teabags
how salty ? hard to tell. it is salty, swim likes the taste but most palates find it "gross", disgusting etc...
swim uses a small coffee spoonful per teabag. the kind one would use for stiring in an expresso cup. b |

Re: Little effect? Teabags
"Owing to the presence of the stimulant alkaloids, the coca tea provides a source of energy similar to coffee. The tea is often sold commercially in filtering bags, each of which usually contains approximately one gram of the leaf. As coffee can be decaffeinated, the coca tea can also be decocainized; however, after undergoing such a process it will still contain a minute quantity of the drug (about 4 milligrams per tea-bag).When the cocaine is removed, the amount of cocaine is small enough for the product to legally sell in the USA according to the Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs. In the 1980s the tea was used to wean cocaine addicts off of the drug."
This from a vendor of Peruvian Mate De Coca |

Re: Little effect? Teabags
well there was also a coca tea scare in the 1980's which forced coca tea off north american store shelves...the so called decocainised tea really wasn't...
and it still isn't, actually. Vendors write what suits them, or maybe this is just hopeful thinking. Does the Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs really mention a quantity of cocaine which would be allowed ? must have missed that part... |
