Re: can you remember what you had for breakfast?
Swim has been smoking cannabis for a few years, but swim's memory doesn't seem to be effected at all. The only negative effect swim has felt from smoking cannabis was anxiety, paranoia, and the occasional bad trip.
Swim believes that all memory problems that swiy may have would go away if you cut back or quit smoking. Swim's memory was at the point of almost slipping, but swim just realized that it was due to the amount of cannabis that swim was smoking. If swiy feels like this is a large problem, swim definitely recommends swiy taking a break for at least a couple of weeks. If memory problems still persist, swim recommends going to a doctor and discussing this problem. |

Re: can you remember what you had for breakfast?
SWIM experienced short term memory problems when he first started smoking on a regular basis. This went away after about a year but he still gets that groggy-headed feeling some mornings, thank fuck for coffee. I guess some people can manage memory function when using cannabis, others can't. If you've been smoking for a prolonged period and still feel your memory is being wiped, then quit or cut back use.

Re: can you remember what you had for breakfast?
Little Red Dinosaur finds himself forgetting long periods of his life but its only partially attributed to his drug consumption, Dinosaur would also say that a large chunk was the lack of activity and stimulus that wasn't drug related during those periods.

Re: can you remember what you had for breakfast?
SWIM has come up with certain patterns he'll do in certain situations. IE-when leaving house checking to make sure swim has wallet, keys, money, etc. Also in certain situations does specific actions - IE when getting out of car always putting keys immediately into pockets, not onto dash or middle console

Re: can you remember what you had for breakfast?
swim is also very similar.. always 'wallet, keys, smokes, check'.. although swim has fallen into a nasty habit of panicking and checking to see where the mobile phone is.. swim will put the phone in the bag, tell herself its there and then about 3 minutes later panic and go searching for the phone
swim has found her long term memory seems to be increasing [she doesnt seem to remeber much from her childhood] but short term memory just on and off can be really bad, even to the point of walking to go and get something and half way realising swims forgotten what she was looking for [she never gets mad though, coz if she waits a minte or two it comes back] swim is looking at cutting back but.. its the festive season ! =] |

Re: can you remember what you had for breakfast?
SWIS's short term memory was torn apart by regular usage of weed... it is a sign that one needs to stop for a while, within a month of stopping it was back to normal. SWIS now smokes weed only occasionally and his memory is/has been fine.

Re: can you remember what you had for breakfast?
Billy Smarts used to laugh at how badly marijuana affected his memory, now it makes him kinda sad.
Edit: Billy has just read what I wrote the other day. He has come to the realisation that marijuana is having a negative impact on his life. Time for a break. Commencing today - Two weeks sober, with the possibility of 4-8 weeks depending on mental speed and clarity. Billy may also keep a very short bullet point journal of daily events. Re: can you remember what you had for breakfast?
LOL
i agree ^^ the first few times you put the remote control in the freezer and take it to the shops is funny.. then it gets kinda irritating :/ however swim has started to keep a daily diary, not like dear diary wah wah wah but just a diary of the day events, who she saw, where she went etc, and has found in the time she has started doing it that she has actually been able to remember more and more details of her day and etc.. not heaps but bit by bit and has also seemed to reduce her 'walking from one room to the other and forgetting halfway there where she was going' quite a bit.. not sure if itll help anyone else i just thought id give it a mention ![]() swim gets sad bcause she used to look at the drinkers and alchoholics and never want to go through the 'blacking out half of the night' or not remembering what happened, chunks of missing memory scare the shit out of her, yet now it happens quite a bit but she almost fees like she was 'conditioned' to it, as in if her memory was the way it is now overnight she would have immidiently done something about it, but being clumsy and ditsy anyway didnt really start to notice until others started upping the comments and noticing more silly little things, but it was extremely gradual.. now time to do something about it eh |

Re: can you remember what you had for breakfast?
Toast with butter and Bovril. However I understand what you mean. Amongst my friends who heinously commit the vile act of Marijuana use I do notice a severe deterioration in their short term memory; often unable to remember simple instructions a few seconds after they are given if they are distracted. Don't get me wrong, this guy was originally easily distractable and prone to disappearing into his own head, but I would say that marijuana seems to have heightened this somewhat. It's strange because he also reports a greater ability to recollect long forgotten incidents when under the influence of the drug, an aspect which has become prominent only after 3 months of heavy usage. It would seem logical to suppose a link between the two, at least from a layman's perspective, although I don't know what it is or have any evidence to prove it.
I do love toast with melted butter and just the right amount of Bovril. Last edited by FuBai; 02-01-2008 at 17:56. |

Re: can you remember what you had for breakfast?
SWIM had to ponder this. He knew that his memory was great he is really smart graduated with honors. SWIM knows he isn't quite as sharp as he was at 18 or so, but he is still not sure if Mary had anything to do w/ it or if it was all the combinations and being out of school probably played a bigger role.

Re: can you remember what you had for breakfast?
Cannabis has a fascinating effect on memory which appears to be less simple than the commonly purported incidence of inhibition. Anandamide, the body's endogenous cannabinoid, has been widely implicated in the functionality of forgetting. As odd as it sounds, the brain has a whole set of actions and neurotransmitters devoted to the important ability to forget useless information. If we had to remember every detail of the overwhelming flood of information that is our common field of perception, we would very quickly find our minds packed with unimportant information, making every experience both an event of permanent learning and recognition of all previously learned characteristics and instances of the world. Image remembering the face of every person you ever saw, knowing by heart every song and aspirin jingly you heard on the radio on your way to work. As the exogenous cannabinoids found in cannabis bind and act on many of the same receptors as the endogenous Anandamide, and are therefore implicated in many of the same actions. So to address the OP, perhaps the ability to remember what you had for breakfast is useless information past the point of digestion, and thus never makes it to long term memory storage. So, does the effect of cannabis on one's ability to forget really many negative characteristics, or can it be used diligently to increase ones propensity to ignore worthless information. Granted, occasionally the information turns out to be less useless than we may have originally perceived, but do the benefits outweigh the occasional costs?
