Denmark: Bromo Dragonfly outlawed today
I've made a quick ad hoc translation of the press release from the department of domestics and health, sorry for my bad english
. It may also serve as an example of the wonderful retoric and unbiased information the gov feeds us here. The euphoriant drug Bromo-Dragonfly is banned with effect from wednesday the 5th of december. The minister for health and prevention, Jakob Axel Nielsen, has made the descision based on a recommendation by the department of health. The department of health has recommended that Bromo-Dragonfly is banned, so that it only may be used for medicinal or scientific purposes in the future. The reason is that use of the drug implies a serious healthrisk. Bromo-Dragonfly can cause severe intoxications, which in the worst case can induce death or changes in the state of consciusness that induce risk for acute psychosis, serious accidents and violence. "When it comes to a drug like this that involves a severe healthrisk I have no hesitation in outlawing it. The scheduling is right on line with the governments past policy regarding a swift and hard reaction against any new euphoriant substances. It's important that we as a society send a clear and unmistakeable signal that we neither can nor will accept drugs like Bromo-Dragonfly", says the minister of health and prevention Jakob Axel Nielsen. We have laws too mkay ![]() Last edited by ThirdEyeFloond; 05-12-2007 at 15:17. Reason: bitching and moaning, the usual waste of bandwith |

Re: Denmark: Bromo Dragonfly outlawed today
Bromo-DragonFLY is extremely rare and very little is actually known about it. There is no general consensus on human dosage and there are claims that it has already killed two people in Scandinavia. Reports of safe dosage range hugely. Erowid has this theory that only two main batches have existed so far, one emerging in America last year and another in Europe in 2005.
It comes as a surprise to me that Denmark have outlawed this when little or nothing is known about this substance. Apparently it is DOB-like in structure and the effects last for a very long time. I hardly suspect many people actually have access to this compound. I wonder if the cost of actually banning this substance completely outweighs the cost of the actual harm it could potentially cause at this stage. The two reported deaths come from the newspapers Jönköping Expressen and Aftonbladet respectively. Their authenticity I can't vouch for. |

Re: Denmark: Bromo Dragonfly outlawed today
According to other sources the health department made their recommendation following 1 reported death in Denmark, but this hasn't been mentioned in any news media here so either its an incident of the usual lousy journalism and they really mean the swedish or norwegian case or its a 3rd case still under investigation.
Bromo Dragonfly is a substance engulfed in much obscurity. The theory of two batches, maybe one active and the other inactive, maybe both inactive. A fair share of reports with a wide range dosages and effects ranging from omgz i waz so fucked up for like 48h, dude!! to no effects at all. Suspicion that the supposedly active blotters were DOB instead. Doubt by the experts (Shulgin & unknown place) that its active orally at all. All this was reason enough for SWIM to steer clear of this one. But atleast now we know there has been a genuine batch on the market. I think many vendors took it of the shells fast due to concern from their buyers that this one could make all hell break loose if the average joe got their hands on a bag of of this - from the initial reports and guesswork - very potent, longlasting psychedelic with a threshold dose in the microgram range. <censored> something about someone having some occupation of which I shalt not speak<censored> which I suspect is the reason there has been these cases in Scandinavia. Unfortunately the scheduling comes as no surprise to me at all as the rationality and reasoning behind danish drug laws has been extremely hard to trace the last 6 years with the current rightwing government (Recently we we're condemned to 4 more years of this nightmare, when will people learn? :cries: ). The motto seems to be 'If we hear about it, we ban it!', this approach saves the need for risk assesments and other scientific basis for making a desciscion; who needs analogue laws when you can just ban, ban, ban! For instance 5-meo-DMT was scheduled the day after it was mentioned on a program on national television. The program showed someone ordering the "LSD-like substance" over the internet (coincedently from <censored> someone I have not mentioned<censored>), and showed a chemist making the synthesis, suggesting it was simple kitchen chemistry. To my knowledge there's never been any reported deaths on 5-meo-DMT not even any accidents mentioned in the news (people would have been near baseline before reaching the hospital anyways). The media created a hype, the devoted populistic minister promptly reacted and our little oasis lost another gem in the name of conformity. We're unwillingly playing the waiting game with most substances, cursed be the day that one of these lovely kind people find a copy of PIHKAL or TIHKAL. Re: Denmark: Bromo Dragonfly outlawed today
I was unsure if I should start a new thread as this probably fits Drug News better but as it's related to this topic I chose to place it here. Please move if SWIY sees fit.
There has in fact been a Bromo DragonFLY overdose incident in Denmark. A user on a danish harm reduction site SWIM moderates has stated today that he was the one. Little is known yet but the incident happened about 11 weeks ago, the user ended up at the intensive ward, and was told that he had OD'd and gone into cramps followed by cardiac arrest. He has been encouraged to write a rapport when he has had a little more time digesting the experience. I'll update once we know more. *A small update* A friend of the user had brought the drug to a dance party, in a small bottle containing 8ml of something he had bought under the name Dragonfly. It's uncertain if the bottle was purchased from a vendor as is, or the friend had dissolved the substance in liquid himself. Two friends of the user had taken small sips of the bottle (yes - this sounds wise...) but were noticing no effects. They were all drunk aswell though which may have both spawned this bright idea and suppresed the initial effects of the drug. The user had a bigger sip and noticed he had emptied the bottle, but didn't think much of it till things went bad. He doesn't remember much of it all though. It was his first time at this type of dance party which are usually frequented mainly by 14-18 year olds so I'm guessing he is quite young, and this seems to be mainly a case of reckless drug use. None of them seem to have had any idea of that they were testing a research chemical, which IMO shows that atleast some substances shouldn't be within reach of a google search.
