This depends on what state you live in. Some states such as PA, require a prescription to be able to purchase syringes. In urban areas, typically they will have needle exchange programs.

If you live in one of these states then this is likely a hastle. SWIM thinks your best bet is to either go to another state and load up (they are incredibly cheap and available in bulk)... I think most states sell them OTC. If this is not a possibility or too inconvenient, just use google.

As far as actually buying them from a pharmacy, you could tell them you are diabetic or use your imagination... there are plenty of reasons why someone "might" want to buy syringes other than drugs/insulin. This frees you from the hastle of having to know anything about being diabetic or insulin.

My state (Illinois) requires a prescription for them, but luckily I live about 5 minutes away from Missouri (st louis), of course I'm sure crossing back across the state line is not legal...

Just say nothing. Tell them one need a needle. If they ask a reason then tell your reason. But not before they ask, one is not in the mood probably to have a nice conversation about ones diabetes... Better buy some candy with it or some other things you needed anyway. People, who a nervous are more likely to add unnecessary information -Like saying one is diabetes. If one was diabetes, one had bought them a zillion times, so one wouldn't say one is diabetes anymore, because one gets sick of it.-, swim wouldn't be surprised pharmacists are aware of these kind of cues.

If asked just tell the truth, someone should just tell the truth. As long as there was no paraphinalia on person, someone would not be breaking a law.

If that doesn't sound good, then the person could just say "well I would rather not say". The won't deny a person a clean needle. Its like a 12 year old being refused a condom because they are too young.

steroid sites have em some kinda big but usually people would rather you use safe ones i get a whole pack for b12 shots but i dont use them for anything but that. i know a lotta places but i dont post links because i enjoy my membership here

Here's a thought as well... in the grocery store, the injectible marinades come with a huge syringe... large barrel about 30cc's, but the bore of the needle must be something like a 10 gauge, obviously something you wouldnt stick yourself with.

The barrel of this syringe should fit any common medical needle.

Next time you're in the doctor's office, lhypothetically one could look in the drawers and cabinets when the nurse isnt looking... they may leave syringe tips laying about, but not the actual barrel.

Check some of the internet auction places like "E-_ _ y", you might be able to find an old antique "glass syringe" that is reuseable... the needles are also reuseable, but require period sharpening.

Sometimes syringes make nice pens, filling with black ink, for fine lines for your artwork

In Amsterdam one can just ask the needle exchange. In UK go to pharmacy. Not sure how it is where swiy is but there must be something. Maybe ask local drug harm reduction support groups.

Man just go to a farm supply store, ask the clerk where the syringes are, if they wonder what you need them for say you're putting antibiotics in whatever animals/livestock are bred in your area. Hope this helps.

You can order them from various places on the web. Like I said in my earlier post, "use google." You can have fresh spikes at your door in a few days. I'd post a link for a site that sells medical supplys, but that would be against the rules... I'm trying to drop hints without being very blatent about it, however I think it's terrible for people that live in states that do not sell syringes OTC to have to use dull, barbed, worn-out, or shared needles. For ideal comfort look for something around 27 gauge. Anything between 25 and 29 should be acceptable. The larger the gauge, the smaller the needle is in diameter.

around here a pharm will want SWIY to know what size needle (ultra fine is okies), needle length (1.5 in), barrel size (1/2 cc) and what type(s) of insulin if SWIM is claiming insulin use (humalog and humulin are a couple). he won't need a script but he will have to sign for them.
