Tramadol for wd

Is it just me, or has any1 else had better luck using plain olod garden store variety generic tramadol to treat other opioid withhdrawal (instead of buph, Suboxone). I find the tramadol works much better, and really holds me. so I do some google scholar, and bingo. One major study says tramadol is superior to buph for WD and maint. figures. Of course, in order to get it to market for this pourpose, it would have to be patneable (theres no money in the generics), and tons of money for all the phase 3 studies, and also to pay of the crooked FDA. Yep, FDA acceptance of a drug has little to do with the merits of the drug or the recomendation of their own, hand picked committes. they are THE MOST corrupt agency there is. Best bet is to bypass and ignore FDA - thats the best one can do.

Re: Tramadol for wd

Swim found tramadol to be pretty useless, light relief at best. Then again swim has a pretty severe habit.Tramadol might work for someone dependent on hydrocodone or something of the like but for swim it has no use really.

Re: Tramadol for wd

I know this is an old thread but Swim came off a 25 year methadone addiction (combined with an IV-heroine addiction first 15 years) by using tramadol. And subuxone did NOT work for Swim.
Swim tapered methadone to the dose where methadone-WD's became unbearable (10 t 15 mgs) and then got a (legit) script for tramadol (300 mgs: 3 x 100 a day).
Then Swim tapered to zero methadone which was rough.
Swim was still sick from methadone withdrawals but less so than normal.
It has been 2 months now and Swim has tapered the tramadol to 200 mgs (4 x 50 mgs). Swim does have a painproblem so has no problems with staying on the tramadol for a while if it's a low dose.

Today Swim still has some pain and withdrawalsymptoms but Swim can handle it so far and hopes to be on 100 (2 x 50 mgs) tramadol a day in by summer...

Nice job on getting off the done you should be very proud! Swim says tramadol don't really do much for oxycodone WD's but is probably better than nothing.

Re: Tramadol for wd

Swim has noticed that tram helps alot with fentanyl or hydrocodone WD's. Swim has friends who have said the same thing about Oxy or H wd's and its been posted on this forum many times that alot of people find relief from wd's with tramadol or have been able to taper off of alot stronger stuff with the help of tramadol. Goodluck.

Re: Tramadol for wd

Swim tapered to 3 x 50 mgs tramadol. Swim still has a lot of backpain, the sneezes and a 'foggy' head and RLS in the evening after more than two months (!) off methadone but Swim wants to hang in there..
Swim thinks she's going to stay on the 3 x 50 for a few months..

Re: Tramadol for wd

as already stated above, in SWIM's experience, tramadol really helped with hydrocodone withdrawals. but for every ying there is a yang. SWIM developed a tramadol habit, which produced it's own unpleasant, but not very severe withdrawals. tramadol is an opioid, so it has addictive and physically dependent properties.

Re: Tramadol for wd

That's exactly why Swim wants to keep her dose low (200 mgs daily max.). But in Swims book 150 mgs of tramadol is nothing compared to 70 mgs methadone. Methadone WD-s are shere hell, they last for weeks and in Swims case even months because she has been using it for decades. Swim wants to take breaks (lower doses) of the tramadol every now and then to keep her tolerance low.
Eventually Swim would like to cut the tramadol by 10 mgs a week: from 3 x 50 mgs to 3 X 40 mgs, 3 x 30 mgs, etc.. Swim will see what the future brings but is happy to be off methadone after 26 years..

Re: Tramadol for wd

26 years - that's a hell of a long time to be on methadone. congratulations for shaking that monkey off your back. it seems as though you're on your way to a better life. i know recovery can be hard, so just stay persistent and keep up the good work.

Re: Tramadol for wd

A little late.. but thanks biggpri(..?).

Swim is still hanging in there. Did not up her dose but has to deal with moderate to pretty severe pain all day, every day. It will take a while to get Swim's endorphinelevels back to normal.
But so far Swim thinks it beats the feeling of not getting anywhere on methadone (all Swim did was sleep and become a numb person. Don't get Swim wrong: methadone can be a great tool to get off a hefty heroine-addiction and Swiy will feel normal to even very good on it - at first - but after years and years on it... it becomes a huge Gorilla on your back.
(Tramadol feels more like a bonobo on Swim's back ;-)
Swim wanted to be free of methadone. Swim hopes it'll work out... if not it's on to another painmed, Swim fears...)
