Heroin: development of tolerance and dependence
My cat is an opiate virgin and has some questions for the more informed cats.
How rapidly does physical tolerance and physical dependence develop in heroin users? Is the answer dependent on method of ingestion? And- If someone were to binge on heroin every weekend, would a physical tolerance develop? |

Re: Heroin: development of tolerance and dependence
It does indeed depend on the method of ingestion, the amount taken, and how often and for how long heroin is taken. SWIM has taken heroin for 10 consecutive days, smoking it each day and in pretty high doses, and abruptly quit taking heroin after 10 days. He had no withdrawl, only psychological craving. He has had withdrawl after only taking it for 3 consecutive days, in the same dosage, which was the first time SWIM tried heroin, why he did have withdrawl after 3 days of little use, but not after 10, he doesn't know, might have been a mental thing.
A physical tolerance would probaply develop when binging on heroin every weekend, one should keep 2-3 weeks in between use to prevent one from getting tolerant. Take it from SWIM though, it's hard to control use of heroin. SWIM isn't addicted to it, but it will stay at the back of the mind, and for some it's too tempting and they will become addicted. Never forget how addictive heroin and all other strong opioids can be, before stepping into her domain and trying it out. Heroin is a lady not to underestimate. |
