American scientists are casting new doubts over the use of drugs like Ritalin in treating children with ADHD.

In the past seven years prescriptions for ADHD preventative drugs such as Ritalin and Concerta have doubled.

However controversy exists as to the effectiveness of long term drug regimes.

Doctor William Pelham claims that there is very little evidence that drug-based treatment has helped ADHD sufferers at all.

Despite attempting to quell fears of the long term effects of preventative drug use, doctors in Australia have admitted that a combination of drug-based treatment and remedial therapies is advisable for ADHD patients.
