can you be addicted to cannabis?
hey.. is it possible to be addicted to smoking bud? SWIM has smoked for almost 10 years and could function normally if for some reason didn't have any.. but in the last 4 years has been smoking about an ounce or 2 of kb a week. If he doesn't smoke he can go the whole time without eating, but the second he takes a bong rip he can eat so much (gained 20 pounds in a week.. couldn't get any for a couple days and just loose it all again). He doesn't eat a thing.. not a thing at all unless he smokes. Is that normal and goes away fast or what? It seems like can't sleep.. can't function can't do anything. But so hungry that you are to hungry to eat and if you try you just about throw up. Get to the point where you can't even move becuase you feel like your going to faint from not eating. Well what should this person do? he is now on probation and has to take drug tests. Is his only option to move to a state that allows medical mj?

Re: can you be addicted to bud?
Personally SWIM believes that this is just a rebound effect from smoking smoking so much. No addiction here. Cannabis also allows swim to do things such as sleep, eat, helps anxiety, etc. If he doesn't smoke he may be unable to sleep and what not, but he already had this problem before smoking, did SWIY have the eating problem beforehand? SWIM has seen other people have the same problem as SWIY and he likes to think of it as people stopping a medication abruptly, which was helping little things in life, and then your body needs to adjust to helping these little things without the cannabis. But truthfully SWIM always thought cannabis could be mentally addictive(more habit forming than anything), but not physically. This person should honestly think about if it's worth and possible to move to a MMJ state, although that would not solve his problem as the justice system doesn't allow people to use cannabis(even medicinally) while on probation(as far as SWIM can remember). SWIY's next option is to go to a doctor, tell him SWIY's symptoms and what-not if SWIY's symptoms don't improve. If from there he can't do anything, I don't know what he would have to do, sorry.

Re: can you be addicted to bud?
Theres been quite a few discussions on this here.Swim thinks you can be addicted to anything in a psychological manner, but will you actually get addicted to cannabis the way one can get addicted to benzodiazepines? No.

Re: can you be addicted to bud?
First of all, abruptly stopping rampant use of upwards of an ounce of KB a week is going to send a shock through SWIY's system. SWIM says it is most likely not withdrawal from the marijuana, but simply SWIY's body reacting to now not having a steady supply of something it has been given so much of for so long.

Re: can you be addicted to bud?
Swiy might have some sleepless nights and might feel a little emotionally drained but probably not something that couldn't be fixed with some strong chamomile tea and some Unisom(doxylamine succinate).

Re: can you be addicted to bud?
An ounce a week, what's the point in that? SWIM can't really get any higher if he smokes over a gram of good bud in a day so smoking about four of five grams a day is just needless, reckless use. Your body has probably become reliant on it because it seems to be the only thing that triggers appetite. Just smoke less. You've no legitimate physical addiction to deal with so this should be manageable with a little willpower and applying cannabis as a reward, not a habit. Your appetite will come back and your sleeping patterns will return to normal. You can permit yourself a smoke before going to bed but there's no point in smoking every minute of the day.

Re: can you be addicted to bud?
SWIM finds that the first high of the day differs greatly from smoking joint after joint, bong-hit after bong-hit. When he went to Amsterdam a couple of months back he smoked non-stop all day in typical stoner tourist style, many different strains. After a while he noticed that he wasn't really getting higher anymore. He was chain-smoking joints like cigarettes and had reached a plateau in effects. It was as if being completely baked had become the norm to the point where he didn't even feel stoned. SWIM finds that highs are much more pleasurable when spaced out. Being sober all day and sparking up a nice joint feels great. Ultimately far more rewarding and it's economical to boot.

Re: can you be addicted to bud?
With swim he finds cannabis to be a nice vacation, far more satisfying if done once a month or even less frequently. And it helps to show those ignorant about cannabis that it is not an addictive or harmful substance and the laws regarding it are completely baseless.

Physically no, mentally yes.
Smurf <3's Marijuana! He could quit though, hard but possible and has been done many times for breaks. It keeps him sane. |

Re: can you be addicted to bud?
PHYSICAL = Nope. Reduce in food intake for first day.
Psychological = Yes. severity varies on in take and individual psychological needs, varies. swia can make an 8th of strong bud with last 3 days this jus smoking it in gravity bongs and buckets, depending on tolerance. she would say an oz of weed a week is pointless, and jus harmful. unless the weed is really crap or swimikkee have a stupidly high tolerance seems a little silly. have a break! it be much more enjoyable if u could have a break that goes for a month. |

^it sounds like youre referring to what i've heard called 'smoking yourself straight'? smoking so much bud that it cancels out your high? |

Re: can you be addicted to bud?
That usually happens to SWIM also. Once he smokes a certain amount in a day, he estimates around an 1/8, it is pointless for him to continue smoking because the bud doesn't affect him at all. He told me that he is taking a break right now and looks forward to lighting up in a month or two seeing as how he was smoking everyday. He believes the high will be absolutely amazing.
