Pain of DMT, Is Purity the Answer?
My question is, will very high purity DMT cause the same level of pain as standard purity when administered through a mucous membrane (ie. nose, lungs rectum, etc.)?
I read in another post about how a guy used a recrystallization method to produce a "suprisingly smooth smoke". This got me thinking, what if an impurity, either form the ammonia wash or left over from the basification was causing the pain?
Ammonia is a biological wast product, so there is no question of it's toxicity and NaOH, being the strong base that it is, will dissolve flesh. The MSDS of the NaOH SWIM got warns about inhilation and how it will eat away the microscopic air sacs in your lungs and cause you to asphyxiate. NaOH is so powerful, a mobster could use it to complete dissolve a rat. Just an FYI to Tony Soprano.
So, if this is all due to impurity, how can DMT be made more pure?
I began to think that a chemist so inclined could redissolve DMT into fresh solvent again and run the solvent/DMT solution through anhydrous magnesium sulfate since my organic chem book says that it pulls dissolved water out of the organic solvent and any ions dissolved in the water, thus increasing purity).
Anhydrous magnesium sulfate is, I believe, easy to make. Simply take Epsom salts made of Magnesium Sulfate and bake it at 200 Degrees C. How long it should be baked, I'm not sure, but the heat will strip the Magnesum Sulfate of water, thus converting it to a desiccant that you can filter with.
In the caffeine procedure I read, a cotton ball is placed into the neck of a funnel, and then a 1cm thick layer of anhydrous magnesium sulfate is placed above the cotton plug. The organic solution is then poured into the funnel twice, each time replacing the anhydrous magnesium sulfate with fresh anhydrous powder.
