Do benzos Cause Fat gain?

I am wondering if anyone knows of any truth to this matter. If benzos cause fat gain, also slowing metabolism?

Do they effect the thyroid output at all? Slowing it down?

Since Stimulants speed the metabolism and can burn fat, do benzos have the opposite effect?

Thanks alot for the knowledge.

Re: Do you benzos Cause Fat gain?

Not too sure about the scientific aspects or what not, but being a naturally anxious person, I do know that axniousness can cause an upset or uncomfortable stomach. Therefore, by taking a benzo that relieves anxiousness, I believe that in itself could cause people to be more likely to eat. Get what I am saying?

I doubt it. Taken as intended, someone with constant unnatural high levels of anxiety is going to have a high metabolic rate (with all the adrenaline pumping round their system). Benzodiazepine use in this situation relieves their anxiety and I would assume allows the body to return to a normal rate and generally nearer normal metabolism.

Taking benzos recreationally may have a slight effect in that a normal metabolism could be lowered slightly, but the biggest probability is that someone munching benzos for fun would have no motivation or energy to get off their arse and burn calories anyway.

Re: Do benzos Cause Fat gain?

SWIM can only relate his personal experiences with benzos and weight gain... In 2 years of basically taking only suboxone and benzos, SWIM is at pretty close to his lowest weight of his adult life.

when swim takes benzos, as perscribed and sometimes recreationally, he tends to eat a lot. they make swim feel like he has a bottomless stomach. but he also dips (tobacco) a lot more as well. this is more when taking more than needed.

Same goes for SWIM here. Except the cig part. He has heard that SWIMs kill benzo highs so he doesn't even want to risk it.

Re: Do benzos Cause Fat gain?

swim can comment on certain benzos and there effect on appetite.

Xanax causes massive spike in hunger, maybe because of the fast acting nature of this.

Klonopin doesnt seem to cause too much hunger.

Valium, seems to have some hunger issues.

Also, It all depends on your mood, if you are down or depressed Taking benzos will make you want to eat and eat and eat!!!!
