Soma (Carisoprodol)? Damage on liver or stomach?
Swim was recently prescribed these and was wondering what a good recreational dosage would be? Also, what are the effects on the liver, kidneys and stomach? Does anyone know? Swim refuses to take percocets or vicodins in recreational doses b/c of the stomach and liver damage that can take place. Thanks.

Re: Soma (Carisoprodol)? Damage on liver or stomach?
SWIM recommends taking three 350mg tablets and as far as he knows there are not any major risks to worry about.

Is Soma even worth taking for recreational purposes? From what Swim knows, muscle relaxers generally suck in those terms.

He was excited to see a friend. He didn't sleep so well for three days prior to her return. Sex was pretty wild that night but agin swim didn't sleep. The night after swim went for beers with the girl and ended up in bed agin. More wild sex ensued. The girl fell asleep. AT this stage swim really needed to sleep. He took 2 soma, but the girl woke up and they were at it again. Later swim took 3 more soma and again more sex but alas not sleep. The following day swim had alot of pains in his stomach which only got worse. Almost two days after initial dosage swim noticed his stools were black and tarry. He suzspects they contained blood. Also swim had alot of back pain for 2-3 days afterwards. Swim believes that this is a result of inappropriate usage. i.e it is supposed to be used in conjunction with rest. Mixing it with marathonon sex sessions was not a good idea, nor was mixing it with alcohol. Soma is generally a good sleep aid. Swim can sometimes sleep 14 hours from just 2 soma. |

Re: Soma (Carisoprodol)? Damage on liver or stomach?
meprobromate was replaced by benzodiazepines which are largely considered much safer. Surely there must be some other action that carisprodol performs on the body before being converted... I don't know, I'm rambling.
But the point is that the arguement many use to claim that it has recreational value is that it is metabolized into meprobromate which was more commonly known in the U.S. as Miltown or Eqinal and used as a tranquillizer before the invention of chlordiazepoxide by Leo Sternbach... The very first benzo to be invented. Chlordiazepoxide by brand in the U.S. is Librium (NOT LITHIUM!) and largely replaced the tranquillizer market afterwards. This soon led to the discovery of the tried and true diazepam by the same man, basically making meprobromate obsolete. But the thing is that, while we find generally chlordiazepoxide barely recreational, many claim it's not. Assuming the active metabolite is responsible for the supposed addictive and recreational carisprodol (soma). On another note, SWIM has discovered things such as chlordiazepoxide are not totally worthless, and actually very valuable to keep around for particular situations. But, drugs such as these that have active metabolites with such a long half life, it usually takes some time for the level of medicine to build up in one's system to the point where tranquillized. SWIM once was given a bottle of chlordiazepoxide... took the whole bottle, doubling up on doses as the Dr. said was ok as they were only 10mg pills. SWIM ran out early given they were prescribed 1 per 4-6 hours and SWIM's Dr told him if 1 didnt' work to take 2... so that's exactly what he did and he ran out... called the Dr. office told them the pills suck and that he would be needing to pick up his refills a few days early... Between the time SWIM started bitching about the pills not working and needing refill sooner, and actually going to the pharmacy to pick up his refill... SWIM suddenly noticed for the first time a benzodiazepine feeling... not from excessive cosumption... they just had taken awhile to build up in his system. SWIM got to the pharmacy and just as he was about to walk out the door... the pharmacist came running after him and told him to stop and give back the pills... The Dr. office had just faxed a new script in for 25mg pills. That's off the subject but anyways, perhaps normal doses of carisprodol taken regularly would gradually build up the levels the active metabolite of carisprodol, meprobromate. This could explain why some people take a pill once and expect instant gradification and are let down by soma... thinking that it's crap... while others take it more regularly begin to experience the recreational effects or even addictiveness of meprobromate. This is of course based on the idea that it is the active metabolite which is responsible for these effects mainly. |
