Side effects - Nausea from Kava-kava?

SWIM has used Kava on a few occasions, and apparently the effects were wonderful. Unfortunately everytime, it caused extreme nausea and a few times heavy duty vomiting. Is this common?

SWIM has experienced nausea a few times, mainly when consumig too much kava. SWIM has only vomited once while in Hawaii, but that was from consuming wayyy too much.

Some strains of Kava are known for producing more nausea than others, though swiy may just be especially sensitive to its effects or prone to nausea.

How much Kava did swiy use in the preparation? Ingesting the Kava slowly over time may help reduce nausea, or at least make it more bearable should swiy want to continue consumption of Kava.

Swim only used a small amount of kava. he used chamamiole tea and lets it steep. adds kava, then sugar. and drinks. make sure the chamaamiole is left in a while.

Does swiy have problems with nausea from using Kava, or does he just use the chamomile as a preventive measure or for flavour?

Swim has problems with nausea and taste. he had it worse when he mixed with green tea or kratom. I couldnt tell you what it means. I know the liver is the thing that filters kavalactones. Other than that i couldnt imagine what causes nausea other than that terrible taste ORRR maybe since its got a local anesthetic effect it like maybe causes the stomach to react bad. i dunno.

The taste and texture of the root sometimes give my rabbit the gag reaction!

My panda must be in the minority then, as he has come to enjoy the taste of Kava. He doesn't care for sizeable pieces of root getting into his mouth, but the texture doesn't bother him too much either. He has come to appreciate the peppery taste and the numbing sensation it brings.

Just for reference, my panda makes his Kava in a blender with whole milk and honey. He blends for a bit, lets the mixture sit, then blends it some more before serving. Sometimes he lets the blend sit in the fridge for a while (overnight) and then gives it a quick blend again before he wants to consume it, which makes for a stronger beverage.

Interesting. My panda knows other critters who either like or dislike the taste of Kava. It seems to be the case that if you don't mind it to begin with you can grow to like it, but people who cringe upon first tasting Kava can become tolerant at best. Maybe we need a thread...

My rabbit may try your panda's recipe. Perhaps he should take the trouble to sieve it, but he can't conceive of liking the taste!
