anxiety and paranoia taking over (tramadol Use)

Hello everyone, I am new to this forum, I want to let you know all know thank you in advace.

I have been taking Ultram50mg about 100-250 MG at day for pain as need it. the problem is that now I am expericing some serious side effects that are taking over my life.

I have this paranoia that everyone is out to get me! I am not the happy go lucky mom I used to be for my son. I make others around me miserable because they know I think they are out to get me. most of the time for some odd reason I am in a horrible and dont want to be anything but mean.
the anxiety wakes me up at night and I cant go back to sleep. I cant eat because it makes my tummy sick and I feel like I cant function. So I take the pills and it just makes me so tired! I literally just want to go to sleep and thats all I want to do.

Help! what is happening! this is not suppost to be adicting like the lortab I used to take.

thanks

Re: anxiety and paranoia taking over

100- 250mg of tramadol is a Big dosage. Not sure about USA but here in the Uk clinical dosage is 50-100 so your doing almost triple the max dosage. The sickness is going to be a side effect from the opiate especially in those dosages. If you simply have to continue taking it, then it might be worth investing in an antiemetic like cyclizine or Ondansetron or the such. The anxiety may be related to when the opiated effects wear off.

Whoever told you that Ultram is not addicting isnt talking the truth, Ultram is the brand name for tramadol which is a synthetic opiate, all opiates are addicting and can precipitate withdrawal symptoms.

Why do you take the Ultram? If you dont mind me asking

maybe try a differant doctor, to say any drug has 'no side effects at all' is pretty irresponsible, i cant think of a single supplement or drug that doesnt have any side effects. Clinically if your having problems with alot of the opiates it might be better moving on to something like NSAIDS for your pain like iboprofin or diclofenac but even if you do that your gonna have to go through coming off the ultram.

Tramadol (ultram) is for moderate pain - it's a relatively strong drug, much more so than something like codeine.

Its difficult for me to offer advise from here as i cant see or look at SWIY. It's like asking a blind man to evaluate a painting. Find another doctor, try and stay away from the opiates, they're bad news unless you desperately need them. The lower the dosage you can cope with the pain the better. Try alternatives for your back such as acupuncture and massage.

I know it seems hard but your just beginning to see what a demon opiates can become, trust me from experience you dont want to enter into that realm, its far far deeper than you can even imagine at this point.

Re: anxiety and paranoia taking over

thank you for all your help. what does coming off mean? is it not taking the drug or less of it. does coming off suck, because it sounds like if this is how I feel betewn dosages it must be horrible.

if I come off the ultam will the paranoia and axiety and stomaic problems go away?

what are the options? I just hate feeling like this.

Coming off the drug generally refers to stopping taking a substance which the body is used to. But as the above say the best idea is to consult a differant doctor it's difficult to advise over the internet. It will be unpleasent but should only be short term (ie 1 week) almost like being ill and could be made less unpleasent with support and help.

Coming off tramadol is usually pretty mild. By the way 250 is not a high dose at all. Swim took 100 mg 1-3 times a day, which is well within recomendations. He ramped to 200 for intense pain if he had no true opiates. Anyway he was on it for 4 months off and on. Usually 2 weeks on 2 weeks off, he had no withdrawls whatsoever. Tramadol shouldn't affect endorphin production enough to cause too bad of withdrawls. However, be sure to come off slowly. Go down to 100 a day for a week, then 50 a day for another, and you should be just fine. If the anxiety is the biggest problem, and you had no dependence to lortab I would say switch back. Addiction is caused by the user, not the drug.

Oh on another note the anxiety is most likely caused from it being a norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor. NE can cause jitteriness, anxiety, irritability, etc. sometimes.

coming off the ultram will probably make the paranoia and anxiety and stomach problems go away
just try to take less and less over time
weed + kratom can help too

Tell your doctor what is happening. Tell him that you can't live neither with the paranoia nor with the pain. Tell him to find something for you so that you can go on with your life.
