Life Insuance

After over 10 years of being addicted to opiates I managed to stop and am just coming up to five years clean. Ive got a mortgage and looked into getting life insurance, however due to my previous history of drug use I would have to pay the most extortionate premium ( almost 10 times the amount my partner would have to pay!). I am fortunate to remain Hep C negative and have no other health problems as a result of previous use. I live in the UK. Has anyone else had similar experiences or can give me some advice..

Re: Life Insuance

How are the companies finding out about your drug history? Can this be stopped? Seems like the only thing to do is find out how to stop the companies from seeing that info or find a company that wouldn't look at the info to begin with (these are likely to cost more $ i'd think). I'm not very familiar with the UK medical system.

A friend of swims had to take a drug test before they issued his $500,000 policy. Swim thought that was a major invasion of privacy.

Re: Life Insuance

It makes sense to me. Insurance companies are scandalous as hell, and I wouldn't want to insure someone that could drop dead from an OD. I mean, I don't agree with it, but looking at the ins.company's perspective (everyone that does drugs has a 200% chance of dying) it makes sense. It's bullshit, but Insurance company's never want to insure someone that might actually come to need insurance, unless they're gonna pay 10x more.

I don't understand what that's trying to say. Everyone WILL die.

Re: Life Insuance

haha. I was just joking. Meaning that that would be the insurance company's point of view.

And i guess it would mean that everyone will die TWICE.
