Detox Advice

SWIM has been using heroin daily for about seven days now and has himself a nice little physical dependance (not) he has managed to procur 50 30mg dihydrocodone tablets and 20 10mg valium tablets.

His physical dependance is not massive, on average SWIM would use about a bag a day (0.2g) and over the last few days he has reduced it down to half of that. What SWIM wants is some advice on how best to taper the dosage of the dihydrocodones and valiums so as best to minimize any withdrawals as if his wife notices that he has been using again (SWIM relapsed after seven years about a month ago and got clean, but it was painful) then SWIM is out.

SWIY's answers on a postcard please.

Re: Detox Advice

My friend apologises for he doesn't fully understand how hard it must be for you, however, he keeps thinking about Trainspotting. He says perhaps try going absolutely cold turkey.

Again he apologises for what might seem like a piss-take, but he is honestly concerned for Swiy, and has known cold turkey to work in some cases (though not necessarily related to gear).

As words of encouragement, he would like to say stay strong and big respect for doing this.

Re: Detox Advice

swiy needs to completely stop using and wait for withdrawal. when withdrawal hits then swiy needs to use the smallest amount of dihydrocodone possible to cure symptoms. in fact, swiy should still be in a little withdrawal. swiy should use this dose for maybe two days tops then lower it. it should only be used for the worst couple days. then swiy should stop taking it and take valium for the next few days which are still going to be terrible but not as bad. swiy can take pretty high doses of valium to ease symptoms. do this for like 4 days and then thats it.

hahaha. Trainspotting was an alright movie, but when it comes to actual heroin addiction, there was nothing there. The one scene with renton freaking out in bed, but that's it.

with a bag/half a bag a day habit, withdrawals should be very close to nonexistant. I wouldn't even think one could get them with only 7 days of use (using such a small amount). I'd say just take it like a man.

that would be really hard to judge surely? Especially if you are beginning a detox and you are both physically and psychologically fragile.

Maybe better to just work out how many tablets you've got and devise a reducing regime yourself.

And if SWIM is going to take the valium, spread it over a few days with normal doses. You can take it all at once without any problems but it's probably better to have a few doses

Re: Detox Advice

SWIM ttopped all opiates/benzo's last Friday, he was on Effexor which he felt were not doing anything so he did some research and found that Doxepin might be the way forward because of its effect on the noradrenaline reupatke.

SWIM's doc happily prescibed them and he has found them helpful for sleeping at night, and they are also starting to lift him.
