Hide your old pills in poop, government says
Got some leftover drugs -- the kind that someone else might want to use, such as painkillers or stimulants? Wrap them up in used kitty litter or other pet droppings, the government advises.
A pilot program at the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration is looking at ways people can safely dispose of unused prescription drugs that are liable to be abused. The Food and Drug Administration recommends flushing some of the most dangerous ones down the toilet, including the strong, addictive painkillers oxycodone and fentanyl and stimulants such as methylphenidate. But environmentalists worry about the effects on fish and amphibians. On its Web site at http://www.samhsa.gov/rxsafety/, SAMHSA recommends ways to disguise leftover pills. "Mixing prescription drugs with an undesirable substance, such as used coffee grounds or kitty litter, and putting them in impermeable, nondescript containers, such as empty cans or sealable bags, will further ensure the drugs are not diverted," it says. Of course some people do not drink coffee. But maybe they have a pet ferret. "Ferret waste, like nearly any other form of pet waste, can be effectively used to help prevent the abuse of unused prescription drugs," SAMHSA spokesman Mark Weber said. This news delighted the American Ferret Association. "The U.S. government declares ferret poop to be an effective weapon against drug abuse," the group said in a statement. SAMHSA said the problem is no joke. "One in five teens reports intentionally misusing someone else's prescription drugs to get high. Nearly half say they get the medications from friends and relatives for free," it says in a statement. Dr. Ilene Ruhoy of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, studied leftover pharmaceuticals found in the homes of 473 people who died in 2006. She found 3,562 controlled substances, or an average of nearly eight per person. More than half were hydrocodone painkiller products, while the rest were oxycodone, morphine or fentanyl. original link here http://uk.reuters.com/article/newsOn...56745220071107 I dont know about yours but some coffee grounds or ferret shit wouldn't even make my badger raise an eyebrow the things he's done to get high!! |

Re: Hide your old pills in poop, government says
Isn't this about disposing of old/unwanted drugs? Not about hiding them with the intention to use them later on, lol.

Re: Hide your old pills in poop, government says
It's unlikely that anyone but the most paranoid will bother to go and submerse their old pills in faecal matter...

Re: Hide your old pills in poop, government says
hehe.. i could just see it know, swim would dispose of those worthless oxy 160 that have been lying around in the medicine cabinet worrying him for years... Afraid to flush them down the toilet as he wouldn't want to pollute our sewage system. Finally the government comes up with a brilliant idea, wait for your dog to take a fresh dump then hide an oxy inside each one of his droppings....
SWIM wakes up the next morning, feeling comforted that the government had come through for him once again, knowing that he'd never have to worry about those darned pillls again... the neighborhood is silent, the neighbors dogs aren't barking like usually. Something strange is amiss. Then swim looks around, and, "Oh No!" Frisky, Spot, Skip, Tripod, and all the rest of his neighbors dogs are lying unconscious in their yards. ...after years of mental anguish and torrment of the mass poisoning of 50% of the canine population in Pleasantville, blaming himself.... swim eventually turns to drugs and alcohol, but oddly, he finds that it is pain pills that take his mind off of that horrific morning. After dr. shopping, online consultations, raiding friends/families/neighbors medicine cabinets swim begins to run out of options and is forced to cop on the street... But now each time he sees a turd lying in someone's yard, he can't help but wonder what's inside it. |

Re: Hide your old pills in poop, government says
do people really throw away their extra pills?? i would imagine that even the most rigid non-recreational user would still keep those extra vicodin for just-in-case situations.
