Obtaining 5-HTP and further info...

My friend's done some research on using 5-HTP to reduce the effects of a comedown after rolling. He has visited various sites and is aware of the recommended dosage, however, he has some questions about obtaining it.

Maybe he didn't look hard enough, but he couldn't find out if it was available over the counter. If it is available OTC, is it sold with a marketing name or as a particular product/brand? Or literally just "5-HTP" on the bottle? My friend is aware of what else it is used for so should the chemist/pharmacy ask questions about it, he will be fine (that is if it is avail OTC).

He has seen it purchasable online at numerous sites. Is this safe? Will it spark up suspicion if it is searched/tracked, and are there any recommended sites to purchase from (UK)?

If anyone can enhance my friend's research with further, advanced info, which he hasn't already read about, he would be grateful.
