Drug info - Israeli manufacturer of Neo Doves, Spirits etc. asked about Hagigat connection

So SWIM recently contacted the Israeli manufacturer of a certain range of "mood supplements" as there had been growing concern that the secret ingredient may have been the same thing as a product called Hagigat which was legal a couple of years ago in Israel.

He told the manufacturer that the forum he used was starting to express great concern that these new products were simply forms of Hagigat and, due to this concern, it would be in their best interests to either allay these fears or to at least confirm the connection.

This was their response:

"we dont sell hagigat we invented hagigat and when it was banned we replaced it with another line of products and when they became illegal we came up with this line of products. those who sell hagigat might as well sell cocaine it the same for the law here.
these are just copycats that found out about the formula after it was banned

we never sell anything that is illegal

Well it could be a load of twaddle, but the fact that they are still in business considering the growing attention they are receiving would suggest that they are managing to keep their products legal.

As far as this "secret ingredient" goes, it's back to the drawing board then.

It has been stated that Hagigat is methcathinone but I have yet to find any reliable resource to confirm that.

The ministry began analyzing Hagigat in July but its results have not been published. A senior official told Haaretz that the analysis was finished a number of weeks ago and indicated that Hagigat contains cathinone, the psychoactive ingredient in khat leaves, which has an amphetamine-like effect.

At the end of 2003, capsules of “Hagigat” (in Hebrew
translation “Gat/Khat party”) appeared on the market as a
substitute to Khat, especially in small convenience stores
that are open 24 hours a day. The capsules were labeled
“Natural stimulant and aphrodisiac for men and women,
contains no chemicals; drink fluids liberally.” The content
of the capsules was analyzed in the Laboratory of Identification
and Forensic Sciences, Israel Police, using thin
layer chromatography (TLC), gas chromatography – mass
spectrometry (GC-MS), and infrared spectrophotometry
(IR). Analysis revealed a white to off-white powder of
cathinone in the amount of 200 mg. In September 2004,
sporadic consultations pertaining to Hagigat exposures
reached the Israel Poison Information Center and some
patients were admitted to emergency departments, mainly
in central Israel. In November 14, 2004, as a result of several
severe poisonings, the Ministry of Health issued a
public alert.
