Interactions between MDMA and Carbamazepine
SWIM had two seizures 4 years ago and was diagnosed with mild photosensitive epilepsy. SWIM has been taking 400mg of Carbamazepine (Tegretol) every day since. SWIM was wondering if there are any interactions between MDMA and Carbamazepine - does the MDMA make it more likely for the Carbamazepine to not work? Does the Carbamazepine mean SWIM won't get so high?
Any advice/info would be gratefully accepted. |

Re: Interactions between MDMA and Carbamazepine
The mechanism of action of Carbamazepine is unknown, so my flamingo can't really give any useful information about the interactions with MDMA.
She would, however advise the utmost caution if considering using stimulant drugs with epilepsy. MDMA is a stimulant, and therefore seizure threshold is lowered. MDMA can also cause seizures via hyponatraemia (although this would be unlikely, unless your monggoose had consumed large quantities of water). Seizures can also be provoked by hyperthermia, which MDMA can contribute towards. |

Re: Interactions between MDMA and Carbamazepine
Thanks. SWIM is always cautious and makes sure everyone with them knows about the epilepsy and knows what to do if they have a seizure.
What would be your advice on what is (typically) 'enough' water and what is 'too much' water. (What would be the amount at which hyponatraemia is more likely?) |
