Have you ever heard of boiling your piss down to retrieve drugs for a second go?

I just heard locally that some meth users in town who were busted, admitted that after using, they'd boil their piss down to a flake and snort the dried residue.

Yeah, this is a desperate means to obtain and recover drugs you've already taken, but they get a second go at what was in their system (less of course).

Ever hear of this?

There are tales of the siberians letting reindeers eat amanitas mushroom and then consuming the urine which i think reduced the toxicity.

where it is discussed. To summarise, the reindeers bodies removed the ibotenic acid which was responsible for the toxic effects, leaving the muscimole.

Amanita muscaria (named after Mt. Amanus, the first known habitat for this fungus) was used by ancient people to control fly populations by mixing it with milk to stupefy flies. The concoction did not kill the flies but once they were asleep, they could be easily disposed of. The Inuit tribes, including the Eskimos and individuals of Russian descent, have close relationship with reindeer, and were aware that the reindeer also had an affinity for the Amanita mushroom. The reindeer had such a great taste for the mushroom that they would be seen consuming the urine of other reindeer who had recently eaten a mushroom. If you wanted to catch a reindeer, all you had to do was to urinate and they would come running.

The shaman would urinate and the followers would consume the urine. The consumption of the urine was a common practice for several reasons:
1. The mushroom was highly valued and expensive
2. The chemicals responsible for severe cramping were filtered out during the first metabolism (which made the drinking of urine popular).
3. Consumption of the urine also allowed the next person to experience a greater intoxication and permitted up to five people, each one drinking the lasts urine, to become inebriated with just one mushroom.

I don't know to what extent methamphetamine is metabolised, how much remains unaltered in urine, but it is possible. Plenty of people drink urine because they believe it is good for them. I don't think this is such a stretch to believe. Just because you find it unpleasant doesn't mean it doesn't happen.

OTOH, ths behaviour does tend to be attributed to minority groups, for example i have heard it related before about homosexuals, and it occurs to me that it might be a way of further stigmatising them as well.

Hey, settle down there champ. If you re-read that without your grumpy hat on you will realise that I wasn't making a negative statement. By me stating that the issue isn't whether it happens but whether it is worth it, I am simply trying to extend this thread.

All swim ever heard about this subject, is during the civil war, the gunmakers and ordance people would collect piss to extract the nitrates out for making black powder and putting the browning on weapons.

Yes, urine was used to produce saltpetre (potassium nitrate), which was the major component of blackpowder. Here's one recipe that dates from the 16th century. This method was used in the American Civil War when the Union blockade of the South prevented shipments of Chilean Saltpeter:

Find old horse manure, the kind that has sat under shelter, and has little
white threads on the surface. If you can't find horsemanure, just take
yourown manure and let it ferment under cover for a few months. Also,
take urine and let it set out until it is good and fermented. Get some
hardwood ashes and lime.

Get a 50 gallon drum or barrel, and punch a hole in the bottom. Put a cork
in the hole. Now line the bottom with cloth. Then add 2" of manure, 1.5"
of ashes, and 1" of lime. Repeat until you are near the top. Now pour in
the fermented urine. Let it all stand for a few days. At this point it
has a particular amusing odor. Then drain off and collect the liquid from
the bottom hole. Pour in some more fermented urine, and repeat. Now wash
it with clean water until the water coming out isn't brown or yellow
anymore and doesn't taste bitter to your apprentice.

Boil the collected liquids down until they just start to throw crystals
while hot, and then add a enough hot water to double the volume and let
cool. You will get almost 10 pounds of crystals of KNO3, with a bit of NaNO3
and NaCl admixed, various brown and yellow contaminants, and some detritus
too. Recrystalize once or twice from clean water to get fairly pure pale yellow KNO3.

From 100 pounds of horse or people manure and 75 gallons of fermented urine
you can get from 2 to 5 pounds of KNO3, depending on a number of factors.

I think the best bit is the instruction to wash the foul mixture until it doesn't taste bitter to your apprentice.

Such things certainly work to some degree...SWIM (no really. Definitely not me). Has something of an infatuation with adderall, and she on at least one occasion has ingested her own urine and that of a friend, which she tells me extended and boosted the effects.

I'd like to reiterate that SWIM is definitely not me.

Ibotenic acid in A. Muscaria causes sickness. It is converted to muscimol, and almost all of it is exrated in urine, so there's a point in drinking it. And remember, urine is sterile, so the only problem is in your mind. I'm not sure if SWIM would have the guts anyway.

Urine may be sterile, but it still contains excessively high amounts of salts and minerals, as well as trace amounts of arsenic. In other words, urine is sterile because of mineral components that sterilize it, ingesting this will have a similar effect on the stomach and throat. Urine consumption has many downsides as a result of this. The ingestion of muscimol in urine was a traditionally peasant ritual, for "getting high" without the money or facilities for mushroom ingestion. The myths of shamans sharing their urine has been widely disproved across the board, while the peasant ingestion of this potent urine has been widely confirmed to be true. The final consideration is what percent of the drugs remain active in the urine. Active substance in the urine are ionized elements that could not be processed by cell-tissue due to their electron charges.
