Quitting Hydrocodone Rx habbit suggestions?

Hiya Fellas,

I've been prescribed hydrocodone by my doctor for my chronic back pain, the hydrocodone upsets my stomach, kills my liver and I've become somewhat dependent upon it taking 3-4 Lortab 7.5/500 lortabs as a daily single dose after work.

I dont want my doctor to put me on another prescription, I think I just want to give up the meds completely, maybe use a little O recreationally in future (I like the weekend only limitation so as not develop another severe tolerance and withdrawl, and I'm not here to debate getting off the hydros only to try O in the future).

Here's my situation, I've got enough 7.5mg hydrocodones left that I divided up into daily doses of 3 pills, enough for the next 5 days... then divided the rest into 2 pills for the next 5 days. Then I've got some Tylenol #3 pills that I divided into 4 pills 5 days, then 3 pills for 5 days, then 2 pills for 5 days...

Reason I'm going with 4 pills with the codeine initially is that it really doesnt affect me that much...

What do you think of this taper down to get off the pills plan?

Do you want to tell your doctor you want to get off the hydro? It will probably be difficult to do this alone without any support, you could avoid the nastier withdrawal symptoms but you could still be in for some difficulty, physically as well as psychologically.

The other concern would be your back pain, what will you do to get that under control? Are you saying you take up to 2 grams of acetaminophen at once? If so, then that would probably be why you say it kills your liver, you should really stop that now. The upset stomach (feeling sick?) could be counteracted by an antiemetic drug that your doctor could give you.

I think it probably could work, but will need 100% determination to make it work. If you are in pain and taking them legitimately, can you not seek alternatives and help from your doctor?

swiys gone through the whole 9 yards of heroin withdrawal with nothing, but has never had any physical pain to worry about. But you definitely sound determined so this should work fine. I'm sure hydrocodone withdrawals can't be too bad.

.......

The tylenol is your liver problem.and probably your stomch also. Tell your doc the tylenol is upsetting your stomach and you are worried about too much Tylenol. Ask for 10/325Norco for a start. (Stop using the first person statements.) 2000mg tylenol in the evening must make your liver unahppy. 4000mg is tops a day but with your 2k at once is not good Swim has bad lower back pain for years and know way to go all day with out norcos and Soma. Swim believes you ae more ito rereational use.. Love to see addicits count pills and mgs that will last so long. It never works out my friend. You will get tired of the 4 Loratabs a evening soon..Swim is no saint averages 6mg norco day and 2 mg lorzepam a day and 4 mg when I am our of Norcos. 14 years of a variety of back problems. I feel l keep some what of conrtol. My undrstanding of your thinking is, if your Doc will continue to prescribe, you will continue to to keep on truckin'.

Re: Quitting Hydrocodone Rx habbit suggestions?

If swiy has been without lortabs for a half day swiy should have felt a little of the withdrawl effects! Swim had a Norco 10/325 habit for six years and was taking 30-50 in a 24 hour period. Swim started counting pills, setting some aside for this day and a few less for that day...but as long as they were in the house, they were gone. To hear that your habit is so much lower is promising, but do swiy a big favor and handle it while it is smaller!

Swim spent years scared of withdrawls until she found out that treatment centers can detox you with a small dose of methadone (even for a huge habit). Swims transition from the norco to methadone to nothing was beautiful, quick and quite painless.

HERE IS WHAT SWIY NEEDS TO KNOW ABOUT TAKING THAT ROUTE...take full advantage of being off the opiates! Swim had such a painless detox that she decided to relapse because she knew that when she wanted off again it was EASY to just go to a methadone clinic and do a quick detox. Once at the clinic Swim found out about methadone maintenance...whoohoo...she could get dosed EVERY day FOREVER with methadone. What a treat...no more dr. shopping, no more pharmacy hopping, etc.

Swim has now got a huge methadone habit and is looking at the biggest challenge of her life...don't don't don't don't don't be like swim. Swim wishes someone would have educated her on this very subject. If swim can save swiy the heartache of this dragon, she may have done some good to somebody after all.

Re: Quitting Hydrocodone Rx habbit suggestions?

swim thinks Kratom would be a good aid in withdrawal from hydrocodone, since hydrocodone is weaker than, say heroin, I think that would make the withdrawals less severe? Kratom may be able to mask them pretty good.

Just speculation though. Check the Kratom forum..

Re: Quitting Hydrocodone Rx habbit suggestions?

Take the supplier out of the equation. Tell swiys doctor that you don't want to be on hydrocodone anymore. Tell swiys friends too, and maybe they can help you deal with your problem, make sure you don't keep using. Ultimately its up to swiy and how bad swiy wants to be clean.
