Re: Why people do drugs?
Well overall for SWIM, doing drugs has been a great experience. SWIM has found that experimenting with his personal favourite psychedelics, as well as other drugs that mellow you down to a euphoric state makes him feel a sense of well-being and joy. SWIM also feels that while on drugs you meet great people and exchange great and semi-meaningful conversation which makes one feel at ease with everyone. Life is too short to not have fun and enjoy yourself in ways one has never imagined, therefore one must think and get outside of the box and fun for what its worth.

Re: Why people do drugs?
this dude I met started taking drugs as a social thing, he has taken drugs on and off for 15 years now. Sometimes this has been very heavy and even addictive at points. Now the dude is very happy and settled. He still uses drugs on a regular basis, mainly cannabis(although experimenting with legal alternatives atm), alcohol, and caffeine. With very occasional use of other substances, mainly hallucinogens . There are many reasons he has taken drugs, but then there are many drugs with many effects. The main reason he says is to enhance a situation.

Re: Why people do drugs?
Because modern day Witch-doctors prescribe them... ?
Of course those are for the most part are the ones that are fucked up. SWIM became interested in the human brain and conciousness. Then swim tried LSD (after reading as much as was available at the local library on the subject... not much). Then soon there after Hofmann published "LSD — My Problem Child". Thus swims experiences with mind altering substances progressed. Authors as Richard Evans Schultes, Wade Davis, etc.. Also swim developed Cluster Headaches, only they went on remission after taking LSD and/or mushrooms. Of course it wasn't until many years later the swim would realize this, see: ....can't post the link but this have been validated in several studies... Swim loves alcohol in the form of beer, makes swim feel good. Feeling good is a major taboo in much of western culture (the only culture swim is most familiar with). One must work hard and prove ones self. Swim has done this and finds it lacking. Swim has loved Indoles, Opiates, Phenethylamines and Amphetamines in the form of MDA or MDMA. Kratom and Coca leaf are now common to swims diet. Chronic pain has almost driven swim to accept the Nazi drug testing regime of a so-called "Pain clinic", but methadone is one drug swim has no interest in! Would rather bleed poppies! Good riddance ... Why does one do "drugs?" hmm... regards, mush |

Re: Why people do drugs?
Swims turtle believes that it is nature to take drugs- many, many animals also enjoy taking substances that get them "high". The most familiar example for most would be cats/catnip.
A most excellent book "The Botany of Desire, A plants eye view of the world" has an excellent section on Cannabis, and delves into the question of why animals in geral (ourselves included" like to "get high" For turtle, it has been most often to explore- himself, the world around him, the mind, the nature of reality, his friends and complete strangers...Though he would be lying if he said there was never a pleasure, or escape, or... involved. |

Re: Why people do drugs?
With regards to plants which get us high, I believe it is more an evolutionary trait of the plant than the animal. Bees love SWIM's Opium Poppies more than any other flower. Is it trace amouns of morphine that bring the bees in? Do addictive plants thrive better than innocuous ones?

Re: Why people do drugs?
Swim's drug use is for the most part medicinally or socially based. Wether it be some mushies for the psych, opiates for a break, amphetamines to get shit done, or a blunt to improve relationships, it normally has a cause behind it. As for why there are drugs, well, ask the deities that are masters of the universe. There's a reason why your god has put the marijuana plant on the earth, and designed it for other reasons that for rope. And there's a reason why poppy plants don't just relieve pain, but enduce euphoria.

Re: Why people do drugs?
hot peppers don't taste good either, but we eat them too. Why? Because dopamine is released when we eat it. (our brain knows theres nutrition in them, so it has to find a way to keep us eatin it, despite its taste)

Re: Why people do drugs?
I said discourage most animals from eating them. Peppers I think discourage mammals from eating them, because they want birds distributing the undigested seeds in their waste.

Re: Why people do drugs?
It was intended to simply make a point. Some things might not taste all that great, but it still produces good effects. And there has to be a reason why these effects can be induced by the introduction of (sometimes) forign chemicals.

I was merely saying that these plants have the things they do not because of a god but natural evolution.

Swim smokes Marijuana so he can smile and be happy and see things in a different way. He does feel a bit confused sometimes but he also feels like hes sitting in front of the truth when he tokes.

Re: Why people do drugs?
That herbs are here probably for millions of years. It is bad if only bad people have access to potentiaters of mind, so saint is one which use that herbs to beat evil even if he don't know is he saint (because he is modest).
That herbs are parts of Lord himself. That is NOT the game even if someone think of that like of game and pleasure light to get. That is universal and all-times fact. |

Re: Why people do drugs?
For SWIM it is to ease the pain of existence/consciousness. He has always felt, as his predominant emotion, out of place, wrong, alien, since his first memories. Melancholy no matter what. Things that are supposed to make people happy, like beauty or love or accomplishment, are like a sharp pain to him. Only extreme euphoria producing drugs can make him feel how he imagines regular people feel, and what makes them able to get along and do things in life.
