SWIM has recently been using peyote every week. Is there a long term health effect to this? SWIM heard about the goldfish study that concluded that mescaline causes dopamine deficiency...

Re: Weekly usage
every drug has an effect on the brain...
the cacti is a beautiful thing. one should not abuse it by doing it once a week. space it out and let your mind and brain chemistry bounce back before doing it. BTW: Swim is happy to hear SOMEONE still uses good ol' peyote. Just be aware that mescaline has been shown to have a negative effect on the brain when abused (like any hallucinogen)

Re: Weekly usage
The first time I ate cactus I thought "hey, I should do this everyday." Life was awesome. But I know that is a bad idea.

Re: Weekly usage
Permanent tolerance implies permanent usage, or permanent neurotransmitter production damage. Mescaline has been shown over long periods of time, and in relatively high doses, to cause dopamine-withdrawal syndrome, though this commonly clears up within a few days. swimy last peyote experience lasted through about a month, with doses administered every 48 hours. Outside of the inherent psychological change caused by any experience (drug-induced or otherwise), the permanent psychological impact seems negligible if existent at all.
As for samadhi123, please provide some evidence that "mescaline has been shown to have a negative effect on the brain when abused (like any hallucinogen)" Thats a pretty lofty statement to make. What exactly is this definition of negative impact? Please elaborate, or provide sources, rather than making blanket statements of negativity. |
