Real reasons to want to quit a drug (listed per drug)

Hey. I'm noticing a large number of people with a simaler problem, including my boy swim. The problem is that a person may use a substance (in this case cocaine but it could be anything, really) and KNOW that they have to stop. They are running out of cash, worried about health, family, etc. Just getting tired of the substance. The person truthfully could quit if they wanted too... the BIG problem is they dont WANT to quit baddly enough. So basically, swim needs to want to quit, but cant figure out how becuase he/she likes the substance. Swim thought it would be helpfull for people if everyone who read this thread added a thought or two on why certain substances are not worth doing. This might help many people get up the motivation, or want, to quit using. Me first...

Cocaine- money trouble

Cocaine- nose health

Cocaine- education

Alcohol- avoiding a possibly serious disease or ten

Re: Reasons to WANT to quit...

Benzo's- tolerance and loss of effectiveness
Benzo's- recreational doses may cause SWIM to do stupid things

SWIM believes benzo's are great for anxiety, especially in conjunction with life style changes(which people often don't do, thinking a pill can solve all their problems), but after a short amount of time you will have to increase the dose, among other things.

Weed - Condition, short term memory. Mental problems (e.g.: paranoia).

GHB - Nasty withdrawal, severely damaged sleep pattern due the dopamine rebound.

Speed like substances - Physical damage due to overheating, anorexia and heart problems. Damage to brain. All kind of mental problems. Insomnia. Egocentrism.

Opiates - The costs on the long term.

Dissociatives - Strange form of egocentrism. Possible damage to brain.

Coffee - Insomnia, stress. Panic disorders.

Re: Reasons to WANT to quit...

Caffeine-Ah, to the one who put caffeine. Thank you. SWIM thinks caffeine (coffee) is highly under estimated as a drug. SWIM has had nothing but positive since quitting caffeine use, and using it maybe 2-3 times a month.

In general SWIM thinks it's worth quitting habitual use of most drugs, and that responsible ocassional use is great. SWIM aslo agrees with the whole psychedelics being used to help get off stuff, and break addiction. IF somehow used correctly atleast. SWIM would like to see some research done on stubstances like LSD,"Shrooms", etc and Dissasociative for addiction.

Re: Reasons to WANT to quit...

NIK has a high bottom. He never lost a job, got divorced, went to jail, spent money he didn't have, or injured himself or others. Instead IV cocaine addiciton caused depression and anxiety, and make him lie to himself and the people he loved. For the longest time, it was all he could think about.

Re: Reasons to WANT to quit...

yes all it really takes is realizing the fact that a given drug no longer brings you pleasure, just trouble. Why go out of your way to bring yourself problems?

Pretty much all addicting drugs: Loss of personality & values. You become a simple animal following instincts. You told your social life to go fuck itself.

Re: Real reasons to want to quit a drug (listed per drug)

Fortunately i don`t have the problems i used to have with drugs, but, saying that i have recently been playing with Tramadol to which i developed a habit over a month period and then used Kratom to wean myself off which worked, but now i`m over doing it with that.

Tramadol because i don`t like the thought of being reliant on it for my wellbeing.I also hate the shitty feelings of withdrawal.

Kratom because i can never sleep on the stuff and also because it creates a crutch for daily living which i hate, and the shitty feelings of withdrawal.

Compared to what i used to be like these problems are quite trivial.I was on Heroin,Cocaine,cannabis,alcohol...All four i abused the shit out of,and suffered the consequences`.

Re: Real reasons to want to quit a drug (listed per drug)

SWIM has found benzodiazipines great throughout most of his life, for sleep, relaxation and recreation. But unfortunately his addiction and increasingly large daily intake of alpralozam everntually lead to it controlliong his life, balancing a dose that will keep him in check for the day and sometimes slipping up resulting in complete dyscontrol i.e violence, destruction of property his own, the states (including exploding a police car?)

A real reason to quit.
