What kind of mushrooms are these?
Edit by Heretic.Ape.
Hello. You may notice a recurring theme throughout this thread. It will go something like this: "what kind of shrooms are these man?" "it's impossible to tell and very dangerous to try to ID mushrooms on the internet..." "what kind of shrooms are these man?" "it's impossible to tell and very dangerous to try to ID mushrooms on the internet..." "what kind of shrooms are these man?" "it's impossible to tell and very dangerous to try to ID mushrooms on the internet..." "what kind of shrooms are these man?" "it's impossible to tell and very dangerous to try to ID mushrooms on the internet..." "what kind of shrooms are these man?" "it's impossible to tell and very dangerous to try to ID mushrooms on the internet..." ... If you'd like to identify mushrooms you should really, really, really, really go get some good books with color photographs, AND take a college or community course in mycology, AND join your local mushroom hunting club to learn what kind of mushrooms grow in your area and get some real hands-on experience with mushroom identification. Unless of course you're into horrible sickness and / or slow agonizing death by irreversible liquidation of your insides. Just my thoughts on the matter. Proceed. h.a. and now back to our regularly scheduled programming. Last edited by Phungushead; 01-08-2009 at 17:04. Reason: deleting posts related to broken images/links |

Hey, Sorry the other post didnt have a link in it that worked, this ones correct information. If one of the kind forum admins wanna delete my other post for me, i wouldappreciate it. Anyways, I have been finding these mushrooms in my front yard for quite sometime now, and I've been wondering as to what they might possibly be. I've done some research and looking for possible identicals online, but I have yet to have found anything. I got some pictures of them, this was just a few minutes ago, and they havent spread out all the way yet. If anyone has any idea what these are, whether they are edible, poisonous, or magic ones, please reply and let me know. Thanks. I put the pictures up on this link because this site wouldnt let me add them...

They are probably just regular lawn mushrooms which have no use, in fact, if eaten they will probably make you quite sick. I have tons of them in my yard.

I can almost guarantee, that unless you have a cow in your front yard, they are not magic. Do not eat anything from the wild unless you have a positive ID on them or you could end up in the ER.

Okay, yeah there are no Mushroom photos. But after looking through them all, I see one of your horse?(Maybe a cow? lol) And it looks like you live on a farm or something. Try looking in places if you have an animal pasture. The only places i've heard of having shrooms are like forest-type areas, and cow pastures. Although I'm sure theres other places seeing as not all shrooms grow on shit. |

i live in new hampshire, usa. in my yard i found a cluster of
mushrooms [7?] growing that i picked.the cap has asmall nipple, white stems [hollow] and the cap was a silverish, smooth color. the caps also looked like a bullet, the stem was 'covered' somewhat by the cap itself, sides of caps 'fell down' i guess you could say. caps werent slimey at all. i picked them around 9 hours ago and the larger caps have begun to ravel up at the edgesomewhat. . they've become more flat. the spores that were originally a dark brownish color have become black and slimey. the best way to describe the slimey juice is like a marker.they were growing on my lawn but in an area that has low grass. .not thick grass either i dont know if this helps but ive eatten shrooms before that were black/dark and these smell the same. . ? if you know what this species is or could email me pictures helpingto identify them, that would be very much appreciated. thank youEdited by: phungushead Last edited by Phungushead; 01-08-2009 at 17:07. Identifying shrooms is really hard without pics even harder when someone like alexatnw is trying to describe the shroom! u said "the spores that were originally a dark brownish color have become black and slimey."
Spores are solid they do not change colours and cannot become slimey!! maybe the gills!! Seriously look up stuiff before u decided ur gonna be the expert identifier and start eatign death caps! 1.silver shrooms is a bad sign, 2.Growing in "short grasse" bad sign 3. When picked they didnt turn blue... bad sign 4. Not fully mature (seeing as they wher "closed") BAd sign... My advise to u, get educated and dont eat those things |

Do a search for "psilocybe semilanceata" or "liberty cap" on google images, it is POSSIBLE that they are that species judging from the nipple, but libs blue/green beuise easily, a slightly silvery color CAN happen, I have seen it, but usually light brown.

Most mushrooms have that same smell. You cannot identify by smelling them. Please be careful. There are too many look alikes to guess.

Hmm... it's really hard to ID without a pic. Do the stems bruise blue, and
have you taken a spore print? A dark purplish print is what you want. How big are they? Last edited by Phungushead; 31-10-2009 at 17:22. Reason: aesthetics... Removed broken link |

Okay, purple... good sign. Now, supposedly your choice of actives in
S. Carolina is: Psilocybe cubensis Psilocybe caerulipes Panaeolus subbalteatus Gymnopolis spectabilis -Caerulipes is automatically out. Grows on wood. -They aren't spectabilis either... they also grow on wood and have orangey-brown spore prints. They have a distinct appearance as well. -I doubt they're pan subbs. Their caps are more reddish, and they have distinct bands of color. Which leaves cubensis as a possibility. Their stems bruise blue, and they have dark purple spore prints. Try comparing pictures with your shrooms and see if they look anything like those. Last edited by Phungushead; 09-12-2005 at 10:24. Reason: aesthetics... |

my word of advice is, if you dont know how to spore print, dont
pick! read up about it first and get an idea of whats going on. printing is a very basic procedure. take paper of contrasting color, de stem the mushroom, then put the cap on the paper. put a cup over the mushroom cap and let it sit for a while. if its dropping spores heavily you can move the cap to a difrent part of the paper every hour or 2. if the mushrooms identification is unknown use green paper. thares no green spores in nature as far as my book says. learn toxic mushrooms along with edible/psychoactive mushrooms. then look for the psychoactives once you know whats up. btw, good luck with everything ![]() Z |

Those are very likely deadly Galerinas. If you eat them you will die. Get rid of them.
The decription you gave of the yellow stems turning darker is a classic feature of the genus galerina. |

whats the spore color. were thare any trees around, or were thare previously trees in the area, or wood in that mulch?? this is a picture of galerina venenata, i think it looks a bit like your mushroom, and is said to grow in grassy/mulchy/woody areas.

SWIM lives in north florida and is a little sketchy about the cow fields and such in the area, but has acres and acres and acres of open forest. SWIM thinks this is way less risky than going to a cow pasture but isnt to sure of what to expect in the forest. SWIM also knows its rained everyday for the last 4 days on and off. can anyone give SWIM a little advice

Really study up on your mycology or you may not make it past 7 posts, I'm not telling you to scrap the whole idea, but then again... markdahman speaks true, do your research.

Is this mushroom magic? <- First time user! help please!!!
Hey, 2 days ago i found this mushroom in a field under sum trees, it was less damaged than it is now and it had a blueish/ purply ring around the edge. I took it home and put it in the fridge, next morning it was all slimy and black looking, i threw it out under sum bushes, my friend told me it might still be ok if it is magic and i should get advice, so i got it and washed it, put it in a paper bag and back in the fridge, today i look at it and its even blacker and there is a thick black liqud coming out of it and it is damaged alot more than before, it has lost shape as well, it used to be a long bell shaped opening up at the edges. Here are some pics..
Please tell me if this is still safe to eat, if it is magic and any advice you can give me as i have never done shrooms before. http://img81.imageshack.us/my.php?image=img1131sg2.jpg http://img154.imageshack.us/my.php?image=img1132qa6.jpg http://img154.imageshack.us/my.php?image=img1133qf7.jpg http://img209.imageshack.us/my.php?image=img1134uu9.jpg |

Even without being able to load your images, I will give you an emphatic answer: NO! It is not safe to eat an unidentified mushroom ever, ever, ever! No matter what your genius friend might say otherwise. Is this friend of yours in your will, per chance? Are you wealthy?
At the very least - get a good field guide to mushrooms to look at. Try to find a mycology club in your area to join that goes on "mushroom walks" to forage for edible ones. Learn from people who have been doing this for years. Otherwise you risk everything from needing a liver transplant, to a one-way ride to the cemetary! |
