Smoking - Harsh crack smoke... solutions?

Hi all,

SWIM recently got a new glass pipe. He thought he would get fancy and try a spoon like device... pretty nice. SWIM usually smokes with pop bottle and ash as straight glass shooter with brillo is just toooooo strong. SWIM has proper crack.

Sooooooo SWIM is not a beginner by any means and has been trying his new spoon glass pipe in many different fashions to get the best effect, for example...

1. glass screen with ash (a little tough to pull and smoke is harsh)
2. metal screen with ash (easy to pull but kinda yucky)
3. No screen, ash only (easy but still harsh)


Ok so the issue. SWIM has good stuff and with pop bottle it is just dandy. BUT SWIM wants to know why the smoke is so harsh when using new glass pipe? Any way to ease the harshness? Suggestions?

Maybe the chore isn't burnt enought- so the chemicals on it may be burning and mixing with the smoke. Rinsing it in water and drying it may help...

It is also stronger, and there is less waste... may be worth it
