Tylenol in opiates, when's the last time you checked your liver?

I know I'm new here... but I've read several threads about people who have taken like 10 5mg Percocets at once, 3 of these, 6 of those....

Sheesh! I have taken 3-4 Lortab 7.5/500's at once for my chronic back probelms/pain.

The pharmacists will tell you that maximum tylenol you're supposed to get is 2000mg per day! And I take that at one dose! I take my meds in the evening when I get home and I'm good to go for the rest of the night until the next day when I get home again.

At my physical exams when they draw blood, my liver enzymes are always slightly elevated (not enough to be concerned about liver damage per se), but I also have a couple beers a night with my meds and long term and am concerned about cihrosis of the liver.

Any of you ever get your liver enzymes checked? Are you concerned?

Aceteminophen is very bad for your liver I hear, and SWIM has taken upwards of 5g(5000mg), and it gave him a headache and his body felt kind of light (due to the thinning of blood I suppose). I really don't know why they add the stuff to opiates, as a lot of people will obviously abuse them (vicodin is like the #1 abused opiate, I would think, just because it's so easy to get), they're really just hurting people, and I have never experienced ANY pain relief from tylenol.

SWIM never heard of aceteminophen thinning your blood... last I checked it was aspirin that did this. Headaches are not a common symptom of over-doing it with acetominophen that I know of... SWIM used to take 5000mg at a time and sure never got a headache from it... SWIM has however gotten headaches from over compsumption of opiates though. Most opiate addicts know that headache SWIM is referring to.

Swim doesn't worry about this. The only opiates that contain acetaminophen are things like darvocet and vicodin. Most real, hardcore opiate users rarely even bother with anything so weak other than maybe in times of emergency.

Re: Tylenol in opiates, when's the last time you checked your liver?

There are plenty of people who often take opioid preperations containing paracetamol, cause there are a lot of opioid/paracetamol combinations available.
Dextropropoxyphene, codeine, dihydrocodeine, tramadol, hydrocodone, oxycodone, all exist in combination with paracetamol, and lots of people don't even know the danger of large doses of paracetamol, let alone when you occasionely drink alcohol.

Re: Tylenol in opiates, when's the last time you checked your liver?

SWIM knows a lot of people who drink heavy amounts of alcohol every day, as well as when taking percocet or other acetaminophen/opiod preparations. SWIM worries about their livers. SWIM no longer takes any acetaminophen, unless it is an emergency and percocet is the only thing available, because SWIM drinks every day.
