Generic Zolpidem Compared to Branded

SWIM was just prescribed generic Ambien and is just wondering if the effects will be the same as regular Ambien.

Re: generic Ambien (Zolpidem)

Zolpidem is Zolpidem is Zolpidem, no matter who made it. So it shouldn't make a difference.

That being said, sometimes flamingos do seem to report subjective differences between generics and brands.

There have also been reports of generics from various Overseas Pharmacies (particularly India) which contain less active drug (or, god forbid, different things entirely)

Re: generic Ambien (Zolpidem)

swia used this a while when she had problems sleeping they worked wonders, she found it caused deliirant like effects if taken beyond normal dosages ranges.

the only side effect was she felt she had some difficulty getting to sleep normally with out the zopidem. and the metallic taste that stayed in your mouth if u did not swallow them quickly. made swia nice quiet.

Re: generic Ambien (Zolpidem)

SWIM took 15mg of generic Ambien and didn't trip like he use to. Could it be because SWIM takes a benzodiazepine and maybe blocks out the Ambien's effect?

Re: generic Ambien (Zolpidem)

SWIM's tried ambien, siesta and generic zolpidem. Siesta is generic zolpidem too. They all coming from Pakistan. Ambien and generic zolpidem made SWIM trip a bit, Siesta seems weaker but makes its job quite efficiently.

Re: generic Ambien (Zolpidem)

SWIM used to get the original Ambien ten milligrams (white pill) and loved it. Really felt the hypnotic/sedative effects and had great fun. Now SWIM gets generic and the feeling is gone.

Conclusion: Generic Ambien sucks compared to the original product!

Swim has never got a metallic taste from zolpiderm. Is swiy sure that swiy isn't confusing it with zopiclone(lunesta)? This one is notorious for causing a strange metallic taste.

Re: generic Ambien (Zolpidem)

Swim has tried many generic ambien all from India called Zolfresh,Zolt.
Swim gets a lovely buzz and takes them during the day for a Euphoric feel.
Do not drive though.Double vision unless you close one eye.
SWim has decided to stick with xanax and valium for now.

Ahh thought swia had them muddled. zopiclone does sound familiar she'll have to check through her notes to confirm she thinks its it is zopiclone. either way taste didn't go away for a while...

My pharmacy automatically gave me generic ambien when it was available and I did notice some trouble sleeping the very first time I took it and randomly after that, but nothing significant -- which probably means it was a little less of the drug, but could be a raised tolerance (? I had been on 10mg/night for two years and it all of a sudden started working funnily?) I switched to ambien cr, and it's been working okay.

I asked my doctor about generics the other day and she said there's nothing different except price, but then her expression indicated it was more complicated than that and she explained that for some drugs, there's never a problem, but for others they have found that the generics weren't even the drug at all (at which point, that's probably illegal of the pharmaceutical company?)

From my limited understanding of how drugs work, a benzodiazpeine should potentiate ambien. However, I'm also prescirbed to ativan, which I've severely decreased my dosage since I started, but I did notice that it did seem to interfere with ambien's effects. I'd be interested in why this is, if anyone has an explanation?

difference between generic and ambien cr

SWIM was just wondering if there was any difference in recreational use between generic ambien and ambien cr. Does SWIY know?

Re: difference between generic and ambien cr

Sort of. It depends on how SWIY would administer it.

Ambien CR comes in dosages of 6.25 and 12.5 mg I believe, while generic ambien (and name-brand ambien instant release..) come in 5 and 10 mg, so one ambien CR tablet contains more zolpidem than its generic ambien tablet counterpart. However, this doesn't mean much in terms of how much it affects SWIY unless SWIY destroys the controlled-release mechanism of the Ambien CR.

How would SWIY do that? I'm not exactly sure, I have heard of crushing it, but I've also heard that tastes awful, and I'm not exactly sure how the mechanism works, so I cannot say if that destroys it or not.

Either way, before SWIY uses it recreationally, I would strongly urge him to search for as much information on ambien before using it, topics such as this one in particular carry information that he should know.

Re: difference between generic and ambien cr

SWIM bit one in half last night and had had no euphoric effects. SWIM guess you have to crush it up or maybe SWIM just won't be able to get the same effects from CR like he got from generic Ambien, period.

It's odd, and if biting into a CR indeed destroys the CR mechanism, it would suggest that the generics SWIY gets are probably not identical to ambien instant-release tablets, as they should be. But there seems to be more factors as I mention in an old reply to another one of your threads here.

It could also be some sort of placebo effect, I suppose, I wonder if SWIY'd get the same effects of ambien CR looked like normal ambien. That's all I have to offer, though, I don't know much else about pharmaceutical companies or pharmacology yet.

SWIM also just crushed up a 12.5 Ambien CR and parachuted it with no results.

Re: difference between generic and ambien cr

If SWIY has taken this medication and knows how to get the euphoric/high feelings of regular Ambien off of this CR, can they please explain how they did it? SWIM has so far bit one in half (no results) and then crushed one and parachuted it, still with no effects.

Re: generic Ambien (Zolpidem)

SWIM also takes 10 MG of Ativan along with 10 MG of Ambien which has now gone generic. SWIM says there is nothing that cause the belief that one drug interferes with the others. Though SWIM has said that he does has noticed a significant reduction in the euphoria involved with the generic Ambien (Zolpidem)

I've never had a time release zolpidem but it might be like oxycontin which has to be crisped first to bypass the time release effect.
