uk law on dxm

SWIM thinking of ordering some dxm from a chemical supplier in america, as far as he is aware dxm isn't a controled substance in the uk so this should be ok, however he just wanted me to ask if this is correct and if SWIM could have any legal trouble

Re: uk law on dxm

It's a POM - prescription only medicine and SWIM is 90% sure it's non-controlled by a special exemption in the misususe of drugs act.

http://www.erowid.org/psychoactives/...1_1.shtml#sch2

Quote:
Paragraph 1: Lot's of drugs which Includes levomethorphan

2. Any stereoisomeric form of a substance specified in paragraph 1 not being dextromethorphan or dextrorphan.
However as it's the dextro isomer of levomethorphan [controlled drug, potent opioid] SWIM wonders how it is synthesized [is there any risk of a tiny fraction of levomethorpan being present? SWIM is unsure if there is a standard synth which always makes pure DXM or whether there is more than one route.]

Anyway the big factor is quantity. Personal importation of non-controlled prescription only medication is permitted (or hard to prosecute) but if your ordering 100g of it or other large quantities this might be seen as intent to supply prescription only medication without a license [medicines act 1968]

The permited quantity is harder to judge than with say common medical drugs ordered on the internet. Usually 1 to 3months is considered personal supply or for whatever reason is allowed through customs [SWIM is sure the law gets a bit hazy here]. Still it's just a case of potential dose X 1 to 3months.

Dextromethorphan(DXM) - doses for cough suppression are a lot less than recreational doses. So what would be a safe amount without being accused of intent to supply [?] - not sure. If it was a fairly excessive or large order customs would probably just block it rather than try to prosecute [easier to do, less resources required] but the buyer would be advised NOT to kick up a fuss and complain - sure fire way to risk prosecution.

Anyway that would be SWIMs understanding of the situation and can't give any definite guarantess on 100% accuracy but hopefully it may have helped.
