methadone
Swims been having problems with staying clean off of opiates. Swim has detoxed more than a handful of times. Two days ago as of an hour ago was his last dose of oxycodone 40mg's in a day. He made it from that point until 40 hrs after the last dose he had eaten some mushrooms and he wasn't having a bad time on them he just was VERY edgy. So swim took 12.5 mgs of methadone. My question is, is that 40 hrs into it I had no withdrawals except anxiety. Usually swim has hot/cold flashes, stomach cramping, insomnia, etc. This time swim has been on a 3 week binge after completely detoxing about 3 weeks before that. Do you swimmers think the methadone will make him have any worse w/d symptoms or better? Swim is intent on staying clean and plans to get clean off this stuff. Also if swim were to go into withdrawal there are currently no opiates available. So swim has to stick this one out. All reply's greatly appreciated!

Re: methadone
it depends on how long swiy takes the methadone. as long as swiy doesn't become physically addicted to the methadone it shouldnt matter. dont take it longer than like 5 days maybe 7 at most. but if swiy wasnt having withdrawal (which is awesome by the way) than swiy should really consider not using any more methadone. then there are no chances of more physical addicion. oh yeah nevermind swiy doesnt have any more methadone but it shouldnt make a difference.

Re: methadone
Yea, methadone has a huge half life, up to 72 hours and apparently it can reside in fatty tissues for ages (i don;t know really, weeks maybe). I have also heard it can be in your bones, but i am slightly dubious about that. So this may explain the lack of withdrawal, or one hasn't really got much of a habit and has used the long half life of the methadone to taper off as it were in one go, which i suppose is possible.
I take 90mg of Methadone per day, perfectly legally prescribed, i have been on it for the last year or so and i don't look forward to the day that i have to think about coming of it. Even although it should be very gradual, going drug free some how seems unrealistic at this point. My friend, has taken up to 200mg of Methadone in one go, and they have felt effects from it, but in his opinion, the effects aren't particularly euphoric. Personally i believe you shouldn't abuse methadone at all, in my opinion there is a fine line between getting 'recreational effects' from methadone and possible overdose. |

Re: methadone
I'm sure your friend did feel effects from it, doctors prescribe 100mg/ml methadone for every gram of street heroin being used. 200mg of methadone is a HUGE amount. This would be enough to kill even hardend addicts

Re: methadone
Yes, it is quite a large amount of methadone to take in one, over double the dose my friend was suppose to take.
In hindsight it wasn't a very clever thing to do, and i truly do believe there is a fine line from getting a buzz off of methadone and potential overdose. My friend will be and has been sticking to the prescribed amount for a long time now. |

Re: methadone
No other opioids, respiritory depressants. (alcohol, benzodiazepines, barbituates)
There are no drugs to prevent overdose, but in the event of an overdose, naloxone (not to be confused with naltrexone), the opioid antangonist can save lives. Last edited by rocksmokinmachine; 03-12-2007 at 11:32. |

I am currently going to a methadone clinic and have been so for 2 years. My highest dose has been 140 mg a year ago, and I am now currently getting off of it and I am at 60 mg. Benzos xanax, valium, Klonpin not sure of the spelling are very dangerous with methadone and so is drinking. To be safe I would aviod all other drugs while taking methadone except pot. |

Re: methadone
Swim is about 3 months clean from a 8 month 120mg per day methadone torture course.
Methadone ISO shouldn't be use long term. Swim even thinks he used it too long as they kept putting the dose up and Swim would feel ok for about a week or 2 then the good old tolerance would come back up. Its like anything, the more you use the more you need. Also don't think that you need it to survive, its all lies, self lies. So what you get a cold and a little anxious, much worse things can happen. Be strong and put up with it, its just your brain telling you lies. Whatever you do don't use other drugs as things only get worse from then. Good nutrition and relax as much as possible. You always have to come back down, most times the sooner the better. oggy added 6 Minutes and 11 Seconds later... Ahh this is an old thread!! Just noticed. Your so hard Easy G!! Keep it up. Re: methadone
SWIM was told by one of her drug workers that once you have a tolerance to about 140mgs a day of methadone that any extra methadone or heroin will have no affect and overdose is unlikely. Those with a lower tolerance can OD by taking as little as half a bag of heroin or an extra 20mgs of methadone. SWIM doesn't know how correct this is but when her heroin usage has got out of hand in the past she has reached the stage when no amount of heroin would have an affect so she can see how it could be correct.
Methadone is dangerous as the affects seem to be gone long before it's actually gone from the body, this means you can think it's safe to use again when it isn't, not a drug to be silly with. |

Re: methadone
swim believes long acting opioids like methadone and buprenorphine (Suboxone, Subutex, Buprenex) are all a big trap and should ONLY be used to detox from short acting opioids. like 7 days maximum. the longer the life of the drug, the longer the withdrawal will be. methadone and buprenorphine have VERY long half lives and VERY long withdrawals. at least 4 times as long. it is NOT worth it at all. these should only be used for maintenance if swiy has a serious, serious lifestyle problem, ie. robbing houses/pharmacies/stores/people, and many other serious crimes with serious consequences. otherwise it is just not worth it. it costs a ton of money and the docs DO NOT want you off. they make soooo much money and they know it is soooo hard to get off of. just swims opinion, just trying to help. 99% of the time it is not a good idea but for someone really, really, serios... it is one opion. best of luck to all.

Re: methadone
^^^^ I don't agree with your opinion at all. The doctors do not want to keep you on Methadone to make money out of you, they want to help you get off of opioids, and help you get off of the Methadone as well, when you're prescribed it as substitution. Maybe it's like what you're describing around your place, but that certainly is an exception, not the rule. Also, here in the Netherlands, doctors who treat opioid addicts with Methadone don't get any payment through their clients who they treat with Methadone or Buprenorphine, but they get payed by the clinic, and in turn by the goverment. So keeping them on Methadone or Bupe for much longer as needed won't make them any more money. It's the same way in the large majority of other countries as well.

caveat lector. The following may or may not be true....
It is quite possible someone will feel little or nothing from 200mg methadone, even if this is enough to kill even an addict with a less developed habit. My personal "best" was 700mg methadone in one day (3 injections of 250mg,250mg and 200mg in some order). I would definitely notice 200mg of oral methadone, but not significantly. It was the minimum I needed to get through the day. That will seem a lot to some people, but I have read in the medical literature of a man (or woman) on a daily script of 2000mg. The mind boggles in what form this is taken, assuming it is an oral script. It would be about 3 1/2 pints (2litres) of 1mg/ml mixture. I wonder what the "world record" is for methadone consumed in one day, maybe it should become an olympic sport! |
