Leary very vocally advocated dropping out of society. While this
may be an interesting idea, it's not an easy one to digest for the vast majority of the population. Many people not "in the know" came to associate LSD and psychedellics with an extreme counterculture and the abandonment of society as they knew it. This was scary as hell to most, and Leary ended up doing lots of damage to LSD's reputation in mainstream culture. I would cite the Libertarian Party's popular analogy, "How do you boil a frog alive?" the answer being that if you try to boil a frog by dropping it into a pot of boiling water, it will reflexively jump right out. the proper way to boil a frog alive is to drop it in a pot of room-temperature water and put the burner on low. Tim Leary tried to boil a frog by dropping it into a pot of boiling water. He said "the world as you know it is meaningless, LSD is the way to open your eyes" and people reflexively said "OMFG" and jumped out of the pot. The correct way to improve LSD's image would have been to promote it as a tool of self-exploration, rather than an earth-shattering, consciousness twisting gateway out of the comfort of society and into the waiting arms of the cosmic jester. or whatever. |

Its all about peace in my mind, There used to be a little bit of personal peace a person could achieve and a certain amount of privacy. Now days those seem to have dissappeared if ya trip you should be out of harms way so you can control whats going on around you, here in the states the social structure has eroded, acid opens you to the truth of things, provided you have intelligence to begin with, we have to get back to some of the older traditions regarding these things, namely the concept of "cool" |

Very well said 42itis and Joy_Of_Salad. I think that Rick Doblin's concept of having "psychedelic clinics" where people trip out in a therapeutic environment is a killer idea. There is a big party in Boston every year and there was some talk about Rick Doblin training some students at my school to act as volunteer "psychedelic emergency workers." I think that being responsible and using hallucinogens can go together very effectively, you just have to care enough to exert the effort. The problems with the research chemical movement came from the vendors and the fact that people tried eyeballing doses. American Chemical Supply was selling "drug mixes" that included three or four random phenethylamines often times. It's just not safe to put something like that into your body if you aren't sure of dosage and/or haven't tripped much before. Also I've seen vendors selling 5-meo-amt as AMT which is just irresponsible and is akin to cold-blooded murder in my eyes. The Beta fraternity chapter at Columbia University was shut down a few years ago because the madmen there were binging so irresponsibly on hallucinogens and dissociatives that people started becoming regulars in the hospital. I've heard stories of people regular mainlining 2C-T-7 and DXM, along with anything else they could put into their veins. This is not the way to trip responsibly... Edit: Who in the hell would sell 5-meo-amt on blotter as LSD anyway? You have to be retarded to give someone a drug with that low of an overdose under the guises of giving them a drug you virtually can't overdose on. It's a mad world we live in... Thanks, I needed to hear that, at least some people still know what "cool" is. Also deleriants and dissociatives are not psychedelic, they are not conciousness expanders, if I remember correctly they work directly through the limbic system or as some refer to it as the "lizard brain" we got enough reptiles runnin around. We gotta start using our "heads" we need to get back to basics collectively and spiritually. We can do it people, there is hope! |

I think there are many factors. Once the dead and phish stopped touring the supply drastically decreased. Then the big bust. After that I heard many of the family producers got scrared and decided to lay low. Pickard got life in prison so im sure they didnt want to get the same. Also I think the rising popularity of ecstasy has something to do with it.
