Usually b4 i go to bed i smoke some weed. Then i usually listen to my burnout and go to sleep. But when i try to go to sleep after not smoking anything for a day i can't. It takes me about 2 hours to fall asleep(unless i've been working that night and i come home tired). My mind is thinking about to much stuff at once and its very frustrating. I'm just wondering if anyone else has experianced this and if i can fix it. Or is it a permanent problem?

It's not permanent, but you may have to change your smokinghabits. I used to smoke somewhere between 5 and 10 grams of very potent hashish(nepalese, maroccan creme, Manali charas, etc) every day, and especially before sleeping, for a couple of years. When I quit I couldn't sleep for a week and almost went psychotic from it. I think the reason for this is that if your body is used to being supplied with a "sleep drug"(cannabis) then it stops producing anyone by itself. So there will be a sleepless transition period until your body start producing it's own sleep-hormones(melatonin). Another thing is that cannabis changes the frequency of your brainwaves, the same frequencythat it has right before going to sleep. Maybe cannabis mantains this frequency, which would make it difficult to get access to the lower frequencies which are the sleeping/dreaming frequencies. I've heard a lot of cannabis users complaint that they don't dream or have trouble remembering their dreams. There have been made studies of this, but I'm not quite sure where you can find the results. Usually, these things pass. Sleep well. (Melatonin tablets might help you through the transition period) |

I have gotten this from time to time. Basically, what I tend to do, is reading. It seems to help me sleep when I am restless due to not smoking.

I have also experienced this same condition. It only occurs after I
stop smoking after a period of smoking consistently(all the time). It lasts a day or two and can be really frustrating but will get better in not too long. |

I think I used to always stay up later to smoke weed without paranoia. And then I would stay up later to enjoy the high. But even before weed when I was like 13, 14 I never went to bed till late.

I have noticed this a lot to, it sucks, it really does suck. I wake up in the morning and im like wtf did i even sleep last night, I wake up multiple times in the night, it sucks. It's insomnia. I take Benadryl sometimes, and xanax when I can get my hand on em. Do a google search for insomnia, and it will give you a few techniques on how to help yourslef fall asleep.

Hi guys... I'm new to this site.... just found it and in a strange way its nice to see other people have the same probs as I.... but also I would not wish this torment on anyone.. I'm on day 7 without dope (I graduly cut down, I was on one joint a day for the last month this is the final and hardest hurdle!!).... and its quite hard (even harder if you start thinking about it!!) been smoking dope for over 15 years (started when I was 15, just turned 30 last year) I have always had problems sleeping ever since I was very young.... all the docters did was fill me with sleeping tablets that made me into a moody zombie..... but a decent spliff, aahhhhh that gets you to bye bye land with no probs.... did not sleep last night at all... nor did I ontuesday or thursday the other nights.... well they have been very hard..... does it get any better? anyway, hope all works out well for all you guys in the same situation take it easy |

yeah its normal to have trouble sleeping. a mate of mine put it well - your body and head are so used to going to bed trashed, that when your sober you stay up thinking. i also find the same thing with alcohol, exam time at uni used to be a bitch, trying to be good and leaving off the drink and weed, but then you find you cant sleep... its a vicious circle! these days i dont smoke that much cos i live with my mum, but i try not to smoke right before bed, its much better to have one say an hour before you want to sleep, then you enjoy it and its easier to sleep when you want... |
