SWIM would like to remind people that most NOS at raves are generally the Car grade NOS and has many other harmful chemicals in them.
The safe kind would be the stuff in the Cream Chargers, which they usually never sell at raves.
(note even food grade NOS is only 99%)

Just for a UK perspective-
Nitrous at raves, In SWIMs Experience is usually from a cylinder in a guys back pack, a cylinder that will fill a large backpack will likely be a 5lb one, this will if full contain the equivalent of around 250 8g whippets/nangs/caps/chargers worth on nitrous..... but usually the balloons sold by such people will contain more nitrous than what could be got from just one 8g whippet.

Its true that the nitrous sold by such people is likely to be automotive grade, as this is the easiest grade to get with few questions being asked.
The reason few questions are asked is because this nitrous is A; not as pure and B; contains "stenching agents". Commonly the stenching agent used is sulfur dioxide, the reason it is added is to try and stop people inhaling it.... sulfur dioxide becomes acid when it meets with moisture (which your lung and throat linings are full of) It is considered toxic and a respiratory irritant, added to that it tastes bad.

But sometimes nitrous from such cylinders will be catering grade, or even medical if SWIY is really lucky. It is also possible to get "whippets" that are filled with medical grade nitrous, the brand "Purewhip" advertise this.

I'm not really sure how it is where u live but SWIM used to take tanks to parties and sell balloons at $XXX a pop.... he'd get 50lb tanks at some shady medical supply store in philly. They started getting suspicious after like 10 times though since a 50lb tank should last a while and it'd be brought back the next day haha

The Nos that swim bought at a headshop claims to be pure N2O under pressure. Swim thinks they are called simply "Creme". The chargers are blue and they are good.

there are many brands of charger, also many colors. Most people cannot tell between catering and medical grade and all chargers are or should be to SWIMs knowladge catering grade, as they are produced for making whipped cream with.

SWIM takes tanks to raves and hippy festivals all the time and if you live on the east coast of the U.S. it will be medical grade gas(all SWIM's experiences) that has come from one of a few places in philly. there is a major difference in taste between medi grade and car grade. car grade you will be able to taste sulfer where as the medi will taste sweet. I have never heard of car grade being sold at parties here.

At raves/doofs here in aus swim has never seen anyone with a tank... just whippets.

SWIM has never also seen a tank tons and tons...and tons of whippets mainly he sees pure whip. And my friends have always remarked that there great and don't make you feel very sick, even when they have been hitting them up all night.

What kinda raves and shit are you people going to that sell automotive grade N2O....????
Ive been to hundreds of raves and ive never seen any1 inhale auto-grade N2O.....only cream chargers....!!!!!

Auto grade would most likely come from 5, 10, or 15lb cylinders or tanks, buying it like this is allot cheaper but getting tanks food grade or medical grade is allot of hassle if not almost impossible where as automotive grade is relatively easy. The 5lb size cylinders fit easily into a large backpack and SWIM has seen nitrous being sold at raves and gigs like this. If the nitrous does not taste sweet or has a foul taste it is automotive grade and sadly should not be inhaled, It has sulfur dioxide added to it as a stenching agent which when meeting the moist inside of your lungs is acidic and will damage them... after the first few inhalations SWIY may not notice the foul taste BUT it is still there.

Websites that sell Purewhip for a long time advertised that the nitrous in their charger was in fact medical grade, so would be purer than normal catering grade chargers, when i look now they say that Purewhip are made under strict guidance from the Liss factory, this means that they may no longer technically be up to medical grade. SWIM cant understand why they would no longer advertise that they were medical grade if they were, previously there was no mention of the company Liss in relation to Purewhip brand so SWIM wonders if they have not been taken over.

inhaling automotive NOs sounds sketchy as hell. SWIM goes to raves but he told me that he has never seen people inhaling nitro at raves. perhaps this is because they're not underground raves(?) w/e. I would just stick to whippets until I graduate and go into pharmacy.

Your very right about that. Automotive grade nitrous oxide is not suitable for human use because it contains sulfur dioxide and other impurities which are fine in an engine, but not in the lungs. In addition to tasting horrible, these chemical can be very harmful to your lungs. In most places, no licenses or permits are required to buy automotive nitrous oxide - but the only thing it is good for is to use in your car.
