To squeeze or not to squeeze

When Swim does a CWE he always squeezes the crap out of his filters (with whatever wet paracetamol is left over after filtration) to get the most codeine possible. Of course, he is always sure that despite a little cloudiness, there are no precipitates in his final solution. He finds that he easily gets another 40%by squeezing, but it seems that many others do not take this step.

Re: To squeeze or not to squeeze

swim squeezes...

swim finds that filtering the solution through cold wet cotton material aids the squeezing process (less chance of the filter breaking compared with using a coffee filter).
then swim filters the filtered solution through double layered coffee filters that have been dampened with cold water. this has yielded a far better result than if filtering through one filter and not squeezing (like twice as much solution in the end).

swim also takes the stuff remaining in the filter after the solution has been collected and starts the whole process again (disolving in water, cooling in the freezer, filtering and squeezing). not sure if that is a waste of time though, any thoughts anyone?
swim never used to squeeze but now does it everytime.

does that make sense? apologies if it sounds confusing....

Re: To squeeze or not to squeeze

It makes sense. Does Swim get much of a hit out of his second, recycled yield if he uses it on a second occasion? Swit used to recycle his leftovers but has long since stopped that practise as it seemed like a bit of a waste of time.

Always nice to hear from fellow aussies! Go chemist's own!!

Swim squeezes! He can see someone not squeezing if they are paranoid about paracetamol content.

Re: To squeeze or not to squeeze

swim combines both solutions after filtering so swim isn't sure if swim gets much of a hit from the second recycled yield. will possibly check that out though over the next few weeks and post results here. swim shares the solution with a friend-of-swim's, so we are both pleased that there is a lot more solution from the squeezing and recycling process to go around.

Swim did a CWE on 40mg this morning and is recycling the leftovers for experimental purposes. Will post results here.

Re: To squeeze or not to squeeze

Everytime SWIM has ever tried to squeeze his coffee filters, they've broken. He's taken to not squeezing now. He basically gets water clear water, so at least he knows he's not getting any paracetamol.

Re: To squeeze or not to squeeze

Has Swir tried using more than one filter? Johnny McJohnson always uses two (one inside the other) because the filter would always break when he tried it with only one. He realises that the squeezing process needs to be done slowly and carefully. He believes it's worth it though.

Re: To squeeze or not to squeeze

SWIM will try this next time. The times he has tried squeezing, the water which comes out before it breaks is normally very milky. He assumes this will not do any damage as long as their are no solids?

Re: To squeeze or not to squeeze

Johnny believes so. In fact, Johnny did an experiment where he took his final solution (post squeeze) and boiled it down/evaporated it. He was left with less than a gram of solids and found this to be very reassuring.

Re: To squeeze or not to squeeze

well, swim's friends rollo and ester report that squeezing and re-using the remaining unfiltered stuff to yield a second result does make a difference. rollo and ester mixed both results into one, so there was no way to measure the effectiveness of the second yield on its own. however, they said that they felt a difference compared to when a CWE is performed once and the filter not squeezed. this difference would be a significant increase in feeling high.

swim is also taking into account rollo and ester's intolerance to codeine, their relatively new experience of using codeine and the effects of other substances with codeine (namely cannabis).

but rollo and ester tell me they had an awesome night....

Re: To squeeze or not to squeeze

I squeeze too, but only on the 2nd extraction.

My procedure:

1- Dissolve tablets/capsule powder into water (Use bottled water with acidic pH ex: 5.5 or so. This is to make sure the water isn't too base and will convert some codeine into base and with this make codeine insoluble) into a bottle or equivalent.

2
- Close the bottle, and shake the hell out of it for a couple of minutes

3
- Put the bottle into the freeze for 10 minutes, and then shake the hell out of it again.

4
- Put a pre-wet (in cold water) coffefilter on top of a glassware and put the contents of the bottle thru it.

5
- When all the liquid has been filtered then remove the powder gunk from the filter with a spoon

6
- Put the water that you will use for the 2nd filtering into the coffee filter in order to get some goodies that were "traped" in the filter..

7
- Repeat processes 1 to 5 with the gunk and the water from process 6.

8
- Squezze the hell out of that filter.

9
- Repeat process 4 with a new filter with the second extraction liquid only.

10
- Join the 2 extraction liquids.
...
...
...

11- Discard the codeine because it may be illegal in your country to abuse it.

Re: To squeeze or not to squeeze

Ok now here's a thought. Filters are weak. Woven cloth is strong. Filters are a neverending expense, an old t-shirt or any other cloth garment can be reused over and over. But before you go use just any old shirt, just be sure it's not perforated (has tiny holes) for airflow. A plain ole 5$ fruit of the loom t-shirt from wal mart is ideal.

Problems breaking filters? then go the way of our previous generation where things were re-used... swim has many less headaches since adapting the shirt. He has only broken one shirt and that was quite the squeeze and resulted in white paste landing over 20 feet away.
