SWIM would like to know about the legality of kava in australia...more specifically, would SWIM be allowed to import this if it was ordered online??

Re: legal in australia??
Swim would need to apply for a Kava Import License (for scientific or medical use only).
If coming in through customs swim may carry up to 2kg on him for personal use. Kava can also be bought in Australia from some outlets. It seems the rednecks in government have decided the Aborigine people are not destroying themselves properly with Kava, so have restricted / controlled sales in an attempt to convert them back to alcohol and solvents. To quote the TGA: "The Australian Government has taken necessary and positive actions in response to concerns that the abuse of kava is contributing to negative health and social outcomes in some Indigenous communities." Re: legal in australia??
I doubt the dogs would be very interested, its not a controlled drug, just something they will confiscate if found, so you would be rolling the dice on whether you would receive your order or not. Its not exactly a small product that could be easily consealed though.
I imagine you would get a love letter for the first time, possible fine or similar for repeated attempts. You could always try and get a permit for a research project you are doing. Or just try and source locally. |
