Question Acquiring Mushrooms: To Grow or Hunt?

hi all.
swim had mushrooms once about a year ago this month, and had a really great time.
but swim waited about 6 months to get them because at first swim was trying to get lsd, and swims friend said yes i can get lsd np but after ages of yes, no, maybe swim got fed up and got some shrooms by luck from a friend.

as swim said they were great, and now swim wants some more. but swim dosnt want to have to wait for another 6 months while ppl say yeah i can get them np just to find actually they cant.

so...
swim lives in dorset, bournemouth to be exact and was wandering about picking shrooms, but swim dosnt have any experience hunting for mushrooms, so what about growing some?
can swim get a growing get easily and how hard are they to grow?

also alot of ppl on here seem to think lsd is really easy to get.. well then were are all these ppl who aparently have loads of lsd and shrooms, because it sure as hell is hard to get them here.

anyway any info on these subjects would be really apreciated

thanks

Re: to grow, or hunt

In my mind there are two options: wait a few months to grow mushrooms of fairly known quality and in good quantity, or spend a few years learning mushroom identification and hunting, yielding variable amounts and quality of specimens. Monkey thinks both are fun but growing far simpler and safer.
If interested in getting an idea of what goes into learning about mushroom ID (just a little bit, not exhaustive by any means) you might check out Mushroom ID: A beginning
There is tons of great info in this forum about growing. The PF Tek might be a good place to start.
Have fun, be safe,

Swim thinks both are fun ! Think its a good thing to take a intrest in mycology and not exclude psilocybe species.

Re: to grow, or hunt

Please also remind your friend that mushrooms containing psilocin or psilocybin are now Class A drugs, carrying a potentially heavy tariff. This goes for possession, cultivation, harvesting, importing, supplying...

It is still legal to possess a spore kit I believe, but not to use it to grow hallucinogenic mushrooms.

growing your own would be much more reliable, but probably illegal. but when you grow your own, you know what you're getting.

Re: to grow, or hunt

SWIM says grow them. If you go looking for them you run the risk of eating a bad mushroom and thats not going to be fun.

There are plenty of places online that sell the spores you need to grow them. And they are legal to buy in the US. I dont know about England. They are also cheap. You are going to invest a little in setting up a Incubator and Fruiting chamber but it will pay for its self in time.

Not only are you going to be having fun eating the shrooms you grew but the process of growing shrooms is fun. It is like a hobby.

Re: to grow, or hunt

Well if SWIy does not know anything about mushrooms now I would not recommend trying to find them in the wild. And it is a long educational road to be totally competent in identifying them. So SWIy is left with producing them. Actuall SWIM has grown them. But also SWIM has simply innoculated brown rice in jars and allowed the mycelia to fully colonize the rice. Then SWIM would simply eat the cakes without bothering to fruit the mushrooms.

Re: to grow, or hunt

Grow 'em. Look up the PK TEK on Youtube. SWIY will need a pressure cooker (SWIM believe a veg. steamer will do the job), some spores and that's all I can think of that'll cost SWIY.

Research growing them and grow. If SWIY does hunt be careful and if in doubt, throw it out.

Re: to grow, or hunt

If one is in an area with abundant amounts of different Psilocybe sp. such as the Pacific Northwest, the identification of the "little brown one's" people want is relatively straightforward. Especially if shown by a professional (or advanced amateur) what they look like side-by-side with the other one's that look similar. At least one will then know what to look for and identify same correctly. But in that area it would be a shame to stop the education there. There are so many delicious edible one's that you could open a restaurant specializing in wild mushroom dishes.

Well ther Pacific Northwest is a unique place for mushrooms. My fondest memories were hunting the wonderful King Boletes. To me the most delicious culinary mushroom. We looked forward to it every fall prancing and dancing through the wet forest trying to get to them before the maggots got them. Amanita Muscaria was everywhere as well. Yes mushroom hunting in the Pacific Northwest will always be dear to my heart. I loved the fall there for the mushrooms and the berries.

Re: to grow, or hunt

SWIM says grow. He tells me he does go hunting but that is mostly just for a good experience. His grows destroy in quantity and quality the amount/types he can find around here. Not to mention there is much less chance of poison.
