what is the difference between Marijuana and cannabis?

is it just a different name or is there an actual difference?

There is NO difference whatsoever..
Marijuana is the name that's more commonly used in the USA..
While people in Europe generally tend to use the term Cannabis..

Cannabis can be used as a collective term for both marijuana (in "herb" form) and resin (hashish).

It seems like basically, cannabis is the "scientifical" term while marijuana is more like slang or what it's called on the street

I think we need to stop with this ridiculous name "marijuana". It's racist and deceptive. In much the same way that marijuana was deceptively pulled out of William Randolph Hearst's ass, I think we should all say "cannabis" when talking about legalization. That might not be enough to get it legalized, but it sure would be nice to bring the proper term into mainstream use.
