Drug info - Methylated Spirits?

This might be a dumb questions. But I know there are alot of people out there spending bucketloads of money on alcohol every weekend to binge drink.

I've heard homeless people mix methylated spirits in with their coridal, because they can't afford alcohol from the liquor store.

So my question is, although it may be a stupid one, why do people spend so much money on alcohol, to simply binge drink, when methylated spirits is apprently pure alcohol?

Does drinking methylated spirits really do that much more damage than binge drinking itself?

I've asked alot of people about this and no one seems to know the answer. They just say, no it's really bad, and that's it.

Just so you know, I don't drink.
