No high from tramadol - help asap please

Please help asap because swim is going to have a phone consult with swim's doctor very soon.
Basically, swim has been taking 100mg of tramadol and it's not doing very much for the pain, and the high/euphoria is very limited, almost non existent. As swim understands it, other opiates have codeine in them, which turn to morphine in the body, and the morphine then turns to endorphins, which make people high and help with pain. if tramadol doesn't have codeine, maybe that's why it's not doing very much for swim. so my question is, does vicodin yield better painkilling and euphoric effects? should swim ask his doctor to change his prescription to vicodin? or morphine pills?

If swiy specifically says "can i have vicoden or morphine instead" they may be shooting themselves in the foot as many doctors will clasify this as drug seeking behavoir

Instead, tell the truth about the ultram. If it is not helping with the pain tell him that and do not mention it isn't getting swiy high. In particular you should not say "wow, this drug made me feel good" or "this medicine sucks i can't feel a thing".

Act nieve about opiates and drugs in general. Just tell him its not working and wait for the doctor to ask if you want to try something else...if he doesnt one can make subtle hints but do not push the subject.

bagh...UTFSE (use the forum search engine) and research the subject before you post....you would have gotten better answers more quickly if you had read the thread above and then posted it in THAT thread if you had more questions that weren't answered by the thread.

just as a sidenote, tramadole has a very high rate of so called non-responders, in the 20 - 30% rate. SWIM is one of these.

and just don't ask for morphine or stuff like that, it's a HUGE jump in potency from tramadole to morphine. if it's really a pain problem and not a "not being high" problem, discuss with the doctor. if he doesn't want to help you, go to another one. it's not that easy to find a doctor who is really informed about opiod pain managment. start out with tilidine, demerol or vicodin 5mg. from there on you can work with your doctor to find a dosage which manages your pain but does not inhibit you (through sedation or hyperalgesia).

oh, and morphine is NOT changed to endorphine. endorphine means just "endogenous morphine" because it's almost the same structure. however, it is right that codeine is changed to morphine in the liver at a rate of 5%-10% in a normal human.

Tramadol is crap, you need more then 100mg for it do anything but if swimmy takes more then 300mg swimmy tends to puke

Try to get gabapentin which is a similar drug that is 10 times better and makes swimmy very happy

The reason why tramadol didnt work is because tramadol is crap, especially for people whom are used to a stronger opiate high such as Oxycodone, Hydrocodone, Diamorphine, Morphine, etc . .

Kitty thinks that Tramadol is a horrible painkiller. Codeine works far better, she says.

Dude the only opiate that contains codeine is codeine. But yes codeine is converted to morphine, but in small amounts (swim doesn't understand how ANYONE can get high off codeine, even 400-500mg).
