This has only happened once to swim and he wonders if it was something other than MDMA in that particular batch of pillz that caused the reaction.

Swim has seen people experience what he would simply call a "bad roll", with various negative effects such as anxiety, paranoia, mood swings, agitation at environment, etc. In most of these cases that he can remember, everyone would be having a good experience except for one person. Sometimes they would be new to ecstasy, other times they wouldn't be. The pills were always very good during these sessions, but a bit strong for some it would seem. One guy became very sensitive to irritation, yelling at people to "shut the fuck up!" and looking very moody and conflicted as he would stare intensely into nothing. He was having such a bad time that swim kept apologizing for everything for him until he said that was pissing him off, haha. Some cannabis after the peak helped him calm down, but it wasn't a great time for him. Another guy was simply overwhelmed by sensory input and emotion. The peak was obviously hitting him hard, as he was holding his head and slowly shaking it about (reminds swim of himself on a strong MDA come-up), and he had trouble talking or communicating. I think the guy may have been worrying too much about overheating or just things in general at first, though afterwards he went to the pool area outside and stared off into the sea for a while (he wanted to be alone). Through the comedown he was mostly silent, though he wasn't freaking out nearly as much as before, nor did he appear to be as anxious. Other bad experiences involved people puking from nausea, though one was able to drink it back (was transparent blue liquid, though still gross) and get the effects back! Sometimes it was obviously personal situations that triggered a bad episode, such as persons depressed about a break-up or other recent events who found that they couldn't stop feel thinking about such things and whose mood turned sour for most of the roll. Ecstasy can make you feel happier, and maybe help you work through personal issues if used for that purpose, but it doesn't cure acute depression from recent events, and doesn't seem to be a good method of 'escaping' one's immediate problems.
Other 'bad', 'reversed' (i.e. effects are opposite to the norm, like feeling angry, aggressive, antipathy towards other people, closed and distant, no energy, etc), and odd experiences swim has seen can be attributed to adulterants (meth doesn't mix great with MDMA), polysubstance abuse (heroin and ecstasy isn't a good idea), or taking ecstasy while on venlafaxine (the 'reversal of effects' happened to someone who did that, made weirder still by the fact that the person acted like he was on E sober oftentimes).
It doesn't seem like our friend Techno Viking here is having a bad time though. The exchange near the beginning may have arisen out of consideration for the woman (on E doing things for others can be the most important thing in the world at times), and the guy is just raving hard to some abrasive beats so it makes him look more intense/fearsome than he may be. Maybe he's a big ol' teddy bear, you just can't see it! Or maybe he's a psychotic killer celebrating his latest kill, who knows...
